Ichi the crate bed destroyer...

edited April 2009 in General
So....Ichi's chewed through about 4 crate beds so far at 8 months old and I'm looking for a suggstion on a bed that can give some comfort and still withstand moderate/heavy chewing. He is crated in there with a dental dino and a kong for no longer than 5 hours during the day, but if his bed has foam as the underlying padding, he's doing whatever he can to go after it (at night).

I've thought about using towels before but he's chewed the ends of those off too and I'm worried that they'll cause an intestinal blockage. And you all know about my episode with crate bed zippers and foam.

Thanks in advance for any tips and suggestions.

Jesse

Wow - Ichi strikes again huh??

Hmm.. I have no suggestions :( Sorry. Ryu doesn't even have a crate bed anymore. We have a blanket tossed in there with him but he barely uses it.

Yeah, he chewed through suede to get to the foam padding.

hmm. well, we do have this crate bed that Roxy used... It was part of the Pet Dreams cratewear collection (you can order it online at www.thepetkitchen.com) and even though we don't use the cover or the bumper anymore, the bed has outlasted Ryu's puppydom and now Roxy's as well. It doesn't have any zippers or any pronounced seams to rip out. Ryu wasn't a terrible chewer but he thinks beds are toys so it has been tossed around a ton and has been through some chewing. It hasn't even broken a seam yet! (Though, it's in the trash as we speak because Roxy had a bout of diarrhea on it this morning - I know! TMI!) LOL

You could also try Kuranda beds. They make one that has adaptable legs for using in the crate or out of the crate. I recently had to get two of them (one for Nola, who destroys ALL things stuffed, including beds, and one for Bella, whose bed was destroyed by the aforementioned Nola). So far, so good! And they are easy to put together and even easier to keep clean.

CSN stores has a better deal than directly from Kuranda (plus they offer free shipping).
