Male Akita import

edited April 2009 in General
So the male import is a go! Talked to Ben and his Japanese import connection this weekend at the Expo. Looks like Ben is going to fly to Japan to pick a red white male between 1.5 and 2.5 years old. They are also going to do a genetic screening for the long hair gene just incase.

I made it very clear that I have no plans to sell puppies. Might help point a few families in the right direction but Ben is going to do all the dealing.

Congrats! That's exciting. So will the male live with you full-time?

Importing an older proven dog is smart of you.

Keep me posted, and thanx for the update!

Also, one thing to keep in mind, we are keeping Fuji intact, so down the road she may be a good female for Ben and you to use. Her head type is not perfect (not enough stop), but she has an AMAZING personality and an amazing pedigree. We kept her intact because her temperament is so nice. Just a thought.

He would stay with Ben. As it stands right now, once Ben buys a house he will construct his Kennel again. If I remember correctly the only requirement Ben had with breeding was being able to find his-her relatives on the Akiho Registry. Since Fuji came from Akita u Izis Akita Kennel - Finding the corresponding Akiho relative should not be very hard. I would be interested in keep a possible breeding in mind.

On another note. Pet expo was really good for Kaeda. She was very shy at first but started warming up as the day went on. As you can see in the photos, Kaeda is bigger than Tora. Kaeda is at 18" where as Tora is 17.5" -there is some question about Tora meeting the standard as a male. It also looks like Kaeda likes to bully Tora around, he got his ass kicked all day long. Yumi, the 6 year old red/white, is one of Ben's. While she doesn't have enough red on her head, she is a really pretty akita in person.
