Just one thing...

edited May 2009 in General
I recently finished a book called "Merle's Door" that really got me thinking about the relationships we have with our canine companions, and how much they mean to us and will always mean to us long after they are gone.

I posted a question on my blog: If you could 'tell' your dog just one thing, one thing that s/he could understand and carry with them always, what would it be?

What would you tell your pup?

Tsuki - THANK YOU for teaching me to appreciate and find joy in all aspects of life, even little things like a leaf blowing in the wind.

Kitsune - My little cautious canine, you are home now, remember that I will always protect you and keep you safe.

To Moto- You taught so many people that dogs are so much more, than just animals. You healed a break in my heart, and losing you was the hardest thing I have ever had to go through. I love you forever.

To Miko-You are pure light and love. Thank you for sharing your sweetness and joy with the me. I love you forever.

To Piglet- You taught me what unconditional love really is. You have given my life meaning and purpose. I love you forever.

Tetsu-My little mans, so much love I have for you...just please please please stay out of the litterbox

Tikaani-You're such a mush, no idea what I'd do without you...and you stay out of the litterbox as well.

Safyre (I know she's not a dog, but I can't leave her out)-You have been there through so much, and had to deal with so many things you didn't like. You are my fluffy kitty, my baby girl, if only I can hold onto you forever and always.

Bella - You have healed so many holes in my heart. Thank you for always being there for me.

Nola - You are the shining sun in my life. Thank you for making me smile.

To both of them: No matter where we lay our heads, home will always be where the two of you are.

Casey there was a sign at homegoods yesterday that said "Home is where the love is".

Your last statement reminded me of that.

Kino - You were my first dog and you made my childhood special in so many ways, but mostly, you taught me about the love and bonds between dog and human and how this connection is a true gift.

Keisha - you taught me patience and seriously honed my dog training skills and for that I am grateful...you also taught me that no matter how much I loved our fluffy cat Randolph, that in your eyes, he was nothing more than kibble...thus, you made me understand - PREY DRIVE.

Cody - you taught me what it is to be a true friend....we went through so much together...I don't think I would have made it without you....I miss you so very much, I miss seeing the shear joy in you eyes as you ran along the beach..god, how i hope we can one day take that final hike...together with all our friends.

Kahlo - You have an amazing gentle soul and have completely changed my heart/mind about rescue dogs. Although you've only been with us a short time, you have touched my heart so completely and I look foward to our time together as we share that gift that I was taught so many years ago by a kind hearted Samoyed named Kino.

Timmy the Cat "AKA Fat Man" - WTF, did you not hear me when I said that couch cost us $1,500?? Also, when the hell did you decide that tomatoes and lettuce would make a great snack??

Stewie the Cat "AKA little boy" - I raised you from birth....sorry I couldn't teach you how to purr or some of the other "cat" things you don't do well...my bad. Also, when you see my food on the counter...stop trying to bury/cover it...as if you were some kind of feline food critic.
