    What a doll!

Does she have springs on her feet too? lol.

Ya, definitely! Sora bounds around all over the place, does fantastic leaps to get her rabbit (we got one of the Nature's Collection ones - somewhat realistic). She loves to chase it around. She is a ninja leaf-killer - no leaves or shrubbery are safe. She's doing pretty good with the potty training so far, not so much liking the crate. I have had puppies before, but never one that had such ear-piercing crying/yips/howling. The birds don't even make noise like that, that consistently (although they might learn from example). They already say "good girl" every time we take her out the door by their cages, and they say "no...stop it" when she's barking in the cage - they didn't learn that from us telling her (we've been trying to ignore her until she quiets down), they know it from us telling the other dogs when they bark. She is soooo interested in the other dogs...we're still having a separation period - for them to get used to her, for her to get used to us, and for her kennel cough vaccine to kick in. But she can't wait. It's funny to see the boys lined up looking over the gate at her. I'm sure she'll love running around with the bcs - they'll definitely wear her out. We''ll keep you all posted.

Stokes is not a fan of the puppy. She likes to lick his face/mouth/everything she can get, and he tries to hold his head up as high as possible so she can't reach him.

Escaping from Tag only to run right back for more - he's very carful with his mouth.

Oh wow - she is really pretty! What a cutie. Congrats again! I love the shot w/ the BC - that is how Ahi handles Loa. Shikoku pups are just non-stop play! So cute!

Awww..she is a great looking pup!  Shikoku's are growing on me more and more....but if im having trouble with a Shiba...I can't imagine what it would be like with a Shikoku...we need to move to a bigger house first...but one day!  Hopefully I can meet Corina's Shikoku and see what a Shikoku is really like in person.  But Sora is adorable!  I envy you and everyone else on this forum who has one!

She is looking great! So pretty and she definitely looks feminine! I see that she is starting to get some darker hair on the sides of her neck now, just like Kuma. He looks like his face is a bit darker than hers now and I think that he is starting to look more masculine to her feminine. What do you think?

So how big is she now? Kuma just went to the vet and he was 17 lbs. It will be interesting to keep notes on how they change!

Here are Kuma's pictures from January 1st.

I just wanted to brag and say Jen and I had the opportunity to meet Sora in person a few weeks ago... she is super cute! She is ALL Shikoku - reminded us a lot of Ahi. She kicked Kona's butt the whole time we where visiting - it was great!

    She looks great guys!

I weighed Sora yesterday, and she's almost 15 lbs. She is getting a little darker - along her sides and on her face the guard hairs are growing in black, and her tail is getting darker also.

Kuma looks great! It's amazing how different they look.

So CUTE! I love all the Sora and Kuma pics.

Jen, the "Escape from Tag" photo of Sora is just absolutely ADORABLE!!!!!!!

Oh my gosh, I've had an interest in Shikoku for a while now, but now that I actually own one...the breed continues to gain my fascination. They are such cool dogs. I'm even getting the "anti-Japanese dog" dog people with my Shikoku pup, lol. They can't resist! MMWHAHAHAHAHA...

...oh Jessica, I can't wait until you get your pup too, you're are going to have so much fun with your princess!

Romi, I'm back from my travels and settled in enough in my new place. So just give me a call sometime. I should have a few days free this week. Then you can meet the little Stinker. I want to see Ninja and "the all for snuggles", Portia!

So Sora, Tag, and Stokes have developed a new play. Sora will lay on her back chewing on Stoke's lips, licking in his mouth, etc, while Tag grabs neck skin, and they all mock growl. Then Sora leaps up, takes off running, turns around, races back, only to take a flying leap into Tag and Stokes. She flings herself at them with abandon! Then it recycles. Sometimes she'll jump up on the lovesac (giant beanbag chair), and leap off of that. When she wants a break, she makes a flying leap for the couch (notice a trend here - she's a fan of the flying leap) and sit behind us, or jump off again. We're still trying to work out the video thing, but we'll try to post it.

Please post a video of that - it sounds VERY funny! lol

I guess that's what you get when you have a bunch of really smart breeds living together.

    Hi Jen,

I KNOW that FLYING leap! Although I don't have any other dogs at the moment, when Kuma is in full blown play mode (almost always outside, luckily) he will leap from about 3 feet away and about 3 feet in the air right into me. Did it ever since he was a puppy. Sometimes I catch him in midair and hold him (kind of like you see with Border collies and the frisbee games). So Sora's and Kuma's leap must be genetic! Hah! Hah. I would be funny to see if the white male Kiba does it too!

  • edited February 2008

OMG!! Kiba totally does the flying leap off our bed!! (shinobi is our other doggie - so many puppies on this forum, it gets confusing!) it's totally funny - especically since they are so floppy right now!! Kiba will attempt to jump off the bed onto Shinobi...but Shinobi isn't a fan...and usually growls at him or moves away. hehehe flying leap as a genetic trait!

Oh... and the mock growling... are Kuma and Sora really vocal when playing? Is this a Shikoku thing? Kiba is soooo loud and when we take him to puppy social, i think other people are taken aback. Drew and I are constantly telling them.."Oh, no...he's just playing..." it almost sounds like he's talking...i need to take a video of it.

Oops! Sorry I got your 2 dogs names mixed up! I corrected my post.

Well so far, Kuma is quiet playing with me and the few dogs that he has played with (mainy he plays nicely with 1 of our cats). But no real vocalizations. But my siberian huskies used to be really vocal and Brad's Ahi is vocal on her youtube videos. Sora seemed pretty quite in her video as well. Maybe it is an individual Shikoku thing?

Oh please do take a video of Kiba mock growling while playing with other dogs.  We also have to explain  ourselves constantly as other dog owners think that Tenji is serious and we know that it is just play.  He does this whenever he plays with his trainer's Rotties.

Sora barks at the other dogs more than she really growls. Stokes is the one who has the continuous rumbling growl. Esp if he is chewing on a bone, and she comes over and slowly steals it from him. He definitely goes to town with the growl-talking.

So here are some new pics of Sora. We finally found something that doesn't really wash her color out. She's 20.5 lbs now and growing fast.
