Rough Housing with your dog(s)?

edited May 2009 in General
I'm pretty aggressive and LOVE to rough house with my dogs. It's SO MUCH FUN! My dogs can take wrestling a lot better then even my boyfriend can, lol. For some reason, I guess humans are just more prone to injury then canines.

I play a lot of wrestling, chase and tug games with them. No wonder why I have so many bruises. Mr. Shoushuu, all 41 pounds of him, loves to come running and slam into me. Shoot, even the high-wired, anxiety-prone Miss Lynx the Malinois knows her own her strength and is careful not to hurt me. The Shikoku - oh wait, I'm sorry, Shoushuu, however, doesn't have the slightest clue, lol. Miss Kotomi is pretty small, so I guess the impact isn't as bad. They're still just pups though...so it might take a few more rough-housing play sessions for them to figure things out.

Still...I really do enjoy an energy outlet with my doggers. How about everyone else? Do you play aggressively with your dogs? Or am I the only "nut"? lol.

I do a lot of that too.
It gets pretty hectic, there's growling and some teeth pressure against my arms, Kuma gets picked up and kind of body slammed, lots of trying to catch his feet and him defending that. The best part is he can be biting down but as soon as I say "Enough" he'll start kissing. It's all play and we know it. The occasional watcher might not agree, hehehe.

Why have them if you can't play and do a little rough housing? Beebe, Ike and owner rough housing sessions usually end with the 2 Shibas trying to out compete each other for my attention (ie, they think that by jumping on me I will be able to see and notice them better) or if it's a 1 on 1 play session, it will turn into some sort of training, which seem to go hand in hand these days. I tend to do lots and lots of play but not very much rough housing (they seem to fulfill that need with each other).

I try to rough house w/ Yoshi, but he's so submissive to me that he usually lays on the floor and will roll over. But when he plays w/ my neighbor's dog (akita), it's right on the edge of turning into an attack.

I've been wrestling with Haru a lot since I got her. She didn't like to be touched much at first, so I use the wrestling as a fun way to pick her up, roll her and stuff. She enjoys it, and so do I.

Yeah, of course we wrestle with Mochi too :P Especially my husband loves to do that when he gets home from work. It's fun and all of us love it and as soon as Mochi bites too hard, he immediately stops. He bites harder when playing with my husband than with me cause he knows I can't take as much pain as my husband can lol Mochi starts licking me before he bites harder too :D

Miso, Sake and I love to get into wrestling matches! Miso does this "bite-lick" where he will act like he is bititng me but really he is just licking. Sake will get a nip in every once in a while. We tumble around and they jump on me and I pick them up and wrestle around with them. They love it.

Often times, my boys do plenty of rough housing with each other, and should i join in they get confused. I can get away with 1 on 1, but whenever I initiate with one, the other always wants to join in.

With Tikaani, I push onto the ground and Tetsu joins in on "beating" Tikaani up. I "chew" on his sides and stomach while Tetsu has the feet. Tikaani makes a lot of growling sounds, but more tries to mouth Tetsu than me.

With Tetsu, I start with tug, or get all squeaky as if I'm excited to see him, and then I start mimicking how he would play with Tikaani. I start mouthing him legs while making Tetsu sounds, I flip him over and go for his ankles. He loves it, and mimic bites back (he just opens his mouth as if he wants to, but it doesn't go around anything).

I find it fun to get on their level and play almost as they would with another dog, totally gives it a new perspective. Though, no matter how ruff I get with them, they are always very 'gentle' with me.

Bella really enjoys the rough housing. Nola, however is a little more sensitive, so I have to be a bit more careful with her. Either way, our rough housing sessions usually end with both of them pinning me down and trying to lick my face off!

That happens with me, too! LOL. My hubby initiates the rough play with them more than I do, but Tsuki is nuts and we can really get her going, then Kitsune bares the brunt of it.

Sometimes Kuma will get his frustrations out on Nyx after the rough house. She's not happy when that happens, because what he always aims for is to pin her down so he can lick her.

I rough house with Kuma too. It must be a Shikoku thing to come running and slam into you. Kuma does the same thing as Shoushuu, a leap from a yard away and body slam into me.
