Subject: Shiba Question

Hello, I was browsing your website, but couldn't find information about any health testing done on your breeding shibas? Is there any information about what tests are done?

Thank you
Jen

Hi Jen
I get all my Shibas for Show breeders...have not had any problems...I had Conan OFA...he is good...Hoss is to old to have done...Hochiko is to young to have it done....
I have a number of young Shibas females that have not been OFA"d....They need to be over 2 years of age....
I plan to do them al....l as I have the $400 to get each one done. It is the cost that is holding me back...
I hope the answers you question...
Thanks Berniece

Thank you for responding. Do you OFA before breeding though?

Not until they are old enough...and as I have the money...

Whats the deal with them? Did they really have one of their shibas in that Hachiko movie? Their website is SO disorganized, its hard to know why there is a picture of Richard Gere!!!!

There are a few people in my area with pets from her. You know Evan's Keiko aka "Kaddy"? She is a Sunshine Shiba, super sweet, but no where near what I would expect from a breeder who is breeding dogs to conform to show standards in regards to build and temperment. I really like her, I would keep or board her any day, but there were some things that just left a bad taste in my mouth after hearing Evan describe his experience with the breeder. He mentioned that the breeder only wanted cash, no refunds or returns, no contract, I think it was more than what I paid for Ike! The word on the street is that one of their pups was in the movie sadly. It's my belief that their dogs were obtained from less then reputable sources, and I would be curious to know exactly where (pet stores, or online from some of the other crappy breeders we always shake our heads at).

The age thing on testing, one of the most well known Shiba studs in the history of the US for some controversial reasons, too, was Hansha's Remote Control (RC). He had no prelims, and no CERF testing done until he was almost 6 or 7 (OFA was done after 2 years I think), which he cleared. She could do prelims on the young dogs, and still test the older dogs. If she can't afford it why is she breeding? Why is she breeding a dog that doesn't have this done at such an advanced age??? None of them, and I mean none, are impressive in any way from the pics and I have never met one of her dogs in the ring although I suppose since they appear to have "papers" she could drag them around if she desired, nor have I seen any of her dogs in a single pedigree in a reputable breeding program.

I'm glad you e-mailed her. She should at least be OFA/Cerfing the dogs before breeding them AFTER they are 2 years, the bitches anyways.
