Do you guys still have Hilo? I can't remember the last time I saw anything new about him. I know you are planning on rehoming some or all of the Akita, but thought you would mention if you did.
Hilo is still here, actually he is under my desk right now as I write this.
Hilo is great, these summer days are not his thing tho, he spends most of them sleeping. I have slowed down in videoing and photographing a lot of the dogs, not really sure why... I guess I just take pictures/video of the ones who are around when I am outside and Hilo is usually inside due to the heat.
He is doing well tho, slowing down a bit with age (not that he is old). He's not going anywhere, he will be staying with us. We will be placing Lani and Fuji and maybe Kahuna (if he survives whatever he has). The girl Akita are kinda velcro dogs, so they need a home where they can get more one-on-one attention... we do our best, but I can tell they would prefer more from us.
Looks like Lani may go to Dave, and Fuji may go to Amber or Jessica. Still working on the Fuji situation.
I posted a video with him in it, for a second at the end anyway...
Viggo does kind of have that big goofy look. Maybe that is what triggered it. I think you have slowed down on videotaping and photographing some dogs because you are currently focusing your energy on others. You are doing a lot of training with Masha and Blue so they tend to show up the most. Ahi always shows up because she has such a strong presence in the pack.
Who is Amber?
What is up with Kahuna? Are his issues listed in his thread?
Amber is "asia" on the forum, we have been talking about her taking Fuji since Jessica backed out. She seems really nice and seems like a great owner for her. She is gonna come and meet us sometime - she can't take Fuji for a while tho. I'm not really gonna make an announcement on the forum or anything.
As for Kahuna, no I have not really talked about his issues on the forum - I made that one "committee members" post but have not updated it. I'm too busy throwing money at him to try and figure out what the hell is wrong with him. We think it's EPI, and we are concerned it's too late - we got a negative diagnosis early on for EPI (twice) but everything else has come back negative too... and all his symptoms fit EPI like a glove.
At this point tho, he is not gaining weight and actually losing it, no matter how much he eats (he eats 6 cups a day). We have done like $5k in tests on him w/ no results. We just took him for another round of testing, hopefully it will reveal something we can treat... otherwise I think he is just going to die. We just don't know what to do anymore, we can't fix a problem if we don't know what it is.
It's really disturbing actually, with him becoming weak and sick the dogs have started to treat him like prey. We cannot have him with any of the dogs or they try to kill him. Ahi starts to play with him, then he runs from her and looks like and (I guess) injured animal (due to his HD and muscle atrophy)... and pow - you see all of the hunter's prey instinct kick-in and the next thing you know he is screaming and we are pulling Ahi, Kona, Fuji, Lani, and Loa off of him. It's really unpleasant - it happened the first time out of the blue, then it happened again when he slipped out the back door by mistake. It sux ass.
As for training Blue and Masha, we have spent a lot of time with them but we always book a Nihonken in with a guardian when we do training so that we are not focusing our attention away from the Nihonken... I just guess I don't video them much. Blue and Masha are puppies, so they are busy... the others are adults now and therefore are less active. ya know?
Christ, that's really depressing about Kahuna. He's just a fucking puppy, you guys must be a mess over it. I'm really sorry to hear how bad things are with him, you guys just don't deserve this kind of bad luck. I'm shocked you even let his breeder stay on the forum. Hopefully the new round of testing shows something. I feel depressed about it and it's not even my dog.
I have no problem with what dogs you post videos and pictures of and or work more with. You don't need to explain to me. And yeah adult dogs do chill out which can be pretty nice.
Thanx, I hope we find something out too. Now you probably understand why I am not interested in Emilie's posts and why her friend was so quick to jump on us about our Akita issue being our fault... because they know how screwed up Kahuna is and they are just waiting for me to let the cat out of the bag.
I will not do that tho, the forum is not the place for that. Plus, we are the ones dealing with it, we don't have time to argue w/ them over who created the problem, we just need to deal with it and try to get him through it.

I guess, in a way, I feel a bit like I am slowly abandoning Nihonken - I don't mean to, and I'm not - we have just had to deal with so much crap in the Japanese breeds. It's getting a bit old for me... dealing with these other breeds is just giving me a bit of a break.
