Be Vewy Vewy Quiet....We're huntin' wabbits!

So, there are about a million New England Cottontail rabbits that hang out on our property. They aren't very big bunnies, some are less than 1/2 a pound and some are probably 2lbs at the most. They hang out in the front mostly but sometimes we get suicidal bunnies who venture into our backyard. For some reason they like to hang out under the deck and in the sea grass and Miso and Sake love being on the hunt for rabbits!

So far they have caught 6 rabbits, and were chasing 2 that I eventually caught and released back into the front yard. I told those rabbits to spread the word that if they come in the backyard, they will probably end up dead, apparently though we have a lot of suicidal cottontails on our hands....

They aren't allowed to eat the rabbits if they kill them, we dispose of them in a mass grave in the woods behind our property. I don't want them getting sick from the bunnies.

Miso and Sake are very stealthy hunters and very good at doing their "job" of catching small game!

Hahaha, they look determined! Our kill count is getting pretty high too... We have a wide variety though: opossums, squirrels, birds, bunnies... a frog once? Mine love chowing down on wildlife.

Oh dear. Do Miso and Sake plan on telling the other dogs that there are bunnies at Meetup? Is Rabbit Roundup an activity they are planning for their friends, unbeknownst to you? At even the mention of the word "bunnies" Reilly completely reverts into her greyhound half and is on the case as well. She will not want to miss this party if bunnies are on the menu, or on the activity schedule.

Im sure the bunnies (and the cat for that matter) will be absent during our meetup!

I love watching the Shibas instincts take over as they hunt or sniff things out. This morning Nemo caught a scent of something on our walk and walked for about 30 feet with his nose 1/2" off the ground, so much concentration going on in that little head.

I know Brandon! It's amazing to see Miso switch into "hunt" mode, he will be just chillin' in his chair on the deck and a split second later it's BAM off to catch something or other. It always happens too fast to catch on video though.

Some people ask why I let my dogs kill rabbits...Im like Lion King dudes...Circle of Life...besides if those bunnies wanted to live, they should never have come into my backyard!

That's a relief! instead they will hang around the punch bowl telling STORIES about rabbits they have chased, killed, eaten, smelled. I will tell Reilly to keep her mouth shut about eating them- social faux pas!

Oh poor suicidal bunnies...Though that last picture with Miso's head in the grass is too funny

Awesome! I love the hunter that runs in the Nihon Ken blood. I'm proud of Miso and Sake's success rate!

Poor, poor little bunnies... But... evolution at work. :)

Bella does not seem to be much of a hunter (unless hunting flies counts)... Nola on the other hand... She has killed countless birds this year and several mice.

I really hope we can come to the meetup, that way Nola can swap hunting stories with Miso and Sake!

Lol those pics are too cute.
Umm...Shira finds ants in the house and then pounces/paws at them, does that count as hunter? Haha.

I notice the shenanigans, interrupt with "What a good little hunter!!" and squish with a napkin before she can indulge herself though. Those things can really bite!

Your post cracked me up! Suicidal bunnies, and mass bunny graves. Your going to be tried as a war criminal in a bunny world court. Just watch out for that bunny from Monty Python! and now for something completely diffrent...

Is Miso shedding? Because looking at that little butthair ploof makes me wish I could pull it out. lol.

Those two are soo cute! :)
I think it is amazing when Toby gets all hunter mode ( which is everytime he goes outside )!
We've been getting lots of rabbits in our yard, I don't think they'll ever learn their lesson.

Miso is finished shedding for the most part. That pouf of butt hair is actually stuck there, it's not coming out, I tried brushing it! My silly boy has a butt pouf....

LOL Joe, seriously, If anyone ever goes behind our fence into the woods it is like a mass animal grave. The cat also brings in mice, moles, etc. and I pick them up with the pooper scooper and chuck them back there with the bunnies.

Sake loves to catch bugs too, she has become a very acomplished Moth catcher/destroyer.

lolol Mylo hunts bugs too! He'll eat flies off the wall if they're low enough, and chomp them out of the air.
