omg, I'm retarded.  I'm probably not doing this right at all.  I see an edit button in the top right of the post with a tree on it, but there is an edit button in the left top and it's for html?    Oh boy.... Foot in mouth

  • edited November -1
eek, Brad help!   Which edit button?
  • edited November -1

oh - that is the edit btn in the form, you need to look at the edit btn of the post you created. It is to the right of your username.

Here this might help, I circled the "edit" btn in red... I may have some more options than you since I am an admin, but you should at least see the "edit" btn.

Ok cool, I understand now.  I reposted the same pic again once with a new one to test it.  Thank you!!

I dunno why its not showing up now - may be a bug in my slide show code... but it looks like you got the right idea.  :c)

BTW - Its no big deal if you post it in multiple posts - I just thought this way would be easier on you. No worries.

OK - I think the slideshow is fixed now.

    Kelly--

Did Kohji's coat start pretty black and then as he has gotten older got more brindle? Kenjis coat is more black but Marian said that it might get more brindle as he gets older. Also your Taj is adoarable! He has a beautiful color.Laughing

Yes, Kohji was black as a puppy and the brindle shows up more when they get older.  I believe that holds true for most brindle colored breeds.  My Dutch shepherd is the same way, he will brindle out more when he gets older.  Some of Marian's dogs are black it appears on her website, and then she has the red/tan colored dogs as well like Daiichi(Kohji's dad).  It all depends on genetics, but yours will most likely brindle out when he gets older, it just takes a couple years.

Marian showed us some pics of "Cookie" when we where picking up Kona - that dog started out solid black and changed to a completely different color, she looks like a piece of wood (like maple) now. It's crazy!

    Brad--

Did you see the pure tan Kais?? I saw 2 puppies when I got Kenji but I believe she was keeping them.

  • edited November -1
Interesting markings, how old is Taj?
  • edited November -1
Taj is 5 yrs.  The tan Kais are pretty rare, I wonder if they are allowed to show that color in Japan.  I know Marian shows hers here in the states.

    Kelly--

I know I had questioned that myself when I saw that she bred them. Robert said he knows people in Japan and was going to ask them about that color on the Kai and if that was standard. I know she was getting alot of greif on the yahoo groups a while ago about it so who knows but I personally like the standard black/brindle and I would choose that color over an all tan one.

This topic has come up a few times - I think it's probably not an ok color in Japan, especially since they have a pink nose - and that points to a pigment issue which would be passed genetically.

Having said that, if she can show them in the states and they are accepted then I guess its not a problem here.

I prefer the black brindle and red brindle too tho - and I plan to avoid any pigment defects in our breeding program, but I may be way off base. I am realitivly new to the breed and its standards - and I have never been to Japan to see a show.

I received info from Kai Ken Preservation Society in Japan regarding the tan/blonde colored Kai Ken.  This color is not accepted in their standard nor do they do not use pale colored dogs in show or breeding.  Other standards (UKC, FCI, ARBA) state Kais are to be black brindle, red brindle, and brindle and that faded colors are a disqualifying fault. Of course, breed standards are interpreted differently. In researching coat color, I believe off-colored dogs may be the result of a phaeomelanin dilution gene.  If you consider how dog breeds are developed over time into the present day standards, then you might ask why breeds have specific coat colors.  These were selected for because they were associated with the best dogs.  So you have to respect those written standards.

That's a good way to look at it, very logical.

I took this picture of Keira the other night and wanted to share. She likes to eat the spiral rawhides and even when shes not eating them, she likes to run around and chase Kenji around with it in her mouth or play catch with them. Very strange i know...lol. Anyways, my hubby and I think its funny because it looks like shes smoking a cigar Tongue out

Awww. How cute! It does look like she's smoking a cigar. A big fat one! Jamie: Your sig leads me to believe that you'll be getting the Hokkaido puppy? *is hopeful*

    dlouisroberts -

My signs are pointing to "hopeful" too! You have no idea how happy I would be to add another fur butt to my pack! Im trying to convince my hubby right now "or just dont tell him until I go pick her up at the air port" Wink But me and Ewa are trying to figure out the cost of the flight and such. I am so worried by the 12 hour flight or flying to US from Poland, so im hoping that it wouldnt harm her, but you just never know. Ive herd many horror stories from importing, but I guess alot depends on the carrier too. I just want to make sure that she is in good hands no matter what. Also I found out that she wouldnt have a limited registeration so I could breed or show her if I chose! Boy would that be awesome to be 1 out of 3 people or so in the US to have a Hokkaido, but then to show or breed her would be an honor so keep your fingers crossed! Sealed

I hope it works out for you! I will let you know how things go with Lani on Monday!

*fingers crossed tightly* (although I may have to let go to finish working on my paper, but I'll be keeping them crossed in my head) :-)

  • edited November -1

  • edited November -1
but Scarlet - its difficult to size!!!
  • edited November -1
I had Brad do it for me :P
  • edited November -1
If you have photoshop, you can go to image size and reduce it to the correct number of pixels - I think for the icon it's 32 x 32 max.
  • edited November -1
all my pictures are in JPEG.  How do I get them in URL?
