Aaaarrrrgghhhh so frusterated with licensing Koda

edited August 2009 in General
I need to just rant. Seems as though I can't register Koda as a Kai in Contra Costa County, because I don't know Kai's don't exist I guess.

So, they're telling me to just pick a breed like a Chow or Akita. WTH!!!!!!! I think I might just go down and go off on them in person. Koda's not a Chow!!!

Thanks I feel better now.

I registered Miko as other. You think Kai don't exist, try shikoku.

lol, I could do other. Don't get me wrong, I would still be annoyed a little to have to check that box, but my county doesn't even allow that. I might have to educate them in person. Might not be pretty though. I'm a tough one. lol

    Really?

Here in Philadelphia, we just fill in what they are letter by letter. Do you fill it out depending on a list of dogs provided?

Yep it's you just check a box. For mixes, you check as many boxes as applies.

list him as a chihuahua and tell them to screw

ha ha ha. I was thinking something like that! I should.

Even my wee little town had Kai in our dog database. They had it as "Kai Dog," not Kai Ken, so Sage is registered as a "Kai Dog (mix)". Did you try the other names, like Tora Dog?

Yeah, not on there. They want me to go down with him. I was thinking a mental health day (that's what I call it when I just don't go in for the heck of it) on Friday, so maybe I'll stop by there. The most frusterating thing is that I called down there and got a lecture about getting fined if he's not registered by 5 months old. I almost went off cause here I am online trying to an hour after he got his rabies shot. The woman did say that there was no difference online or down there as far as choices.

What! A box checking system? How long exactly is that list? If you're gonna have a box-checking system, you'd need to at least include every breed in the FCI, no??

Then again, when I was booking the dogs' flights for this winter, the airline lady asked me what kind of dog they were (they don't fly out certain breeds or whatever) so to make it simple I just said 2 Chihuahuas...

If they want you to check some other breed, why not check them all since apparently breed accuracy doesn't matter (I mean how many brindle chows are out there)

Technically we were supposed to register our guys a 4 months old (And be fined if we didn't) but we waited until after they were fixed to save money ($2 as apposed to $15).

Check every breed other than the "aggressive" breeds.

    I vote Poodle.

"I mean how many brindle chows are out there" and they have a box for black brindle. lol.

Jessica they wanted to put him down as an Akita or Chow. That's kind've what I have a problem with. If anything happened, which it probably won't, but animal control or a police officer could treat him as a dangerous breed. I just don't want that. I need to talk to a supervisor because the woman at the front is killing me.

Put him down as a Maltese or a Saint Bernard....

My mom wanted to register her chihuahua as a miniature great dane, they weren't amused

I could put black brindle Shiba. ha ha. It's a spitz. That's what they said they were looking for.

Tara, now I see what you're saying...wouldn't want them to label her as one of the "aggressive breeds" right off the bat should (god forbid) she gets caught and sent to animal control...how about a black lab? I have them on my mind today ;-)

Yeah, black brindle shiba might work.

Go with it on a Need to Know basis. black brindle shiba is all they really need to know for city purposes.

My sister registers her mixed breed dog as an All-American, and suggested I do the same publicly when Kai isn't an option to avoid these problems, but I coudln't because he is HALF Japanese. That's not *ALL* American... :)

I found out why Contra Costa County does not have any generic categories. It's because of the amount of dog fighting and such that we have had in the Bay Area. They want to make sure that they have a good knowledge of what dog is where and what breed he/she is when entering a home or dealing with a disturbance to protect not only the community but their officers as well. I think I quoted the guy pretty well. He wants to see Koda in person, so we'll go down tomorrow. It's less than 10 minutes from the house.
