About the MN timberwolf...
Below is a link to a story from a north-central MN newspaper. This area of MN is about 60-70 miles to the west and slightly north from our farm. Thought it might be of interest to you all considering the tales of Josephine and the Wolf, and various wolf sightings at our farm by Steve. If you can get to the article, you can get to the "readers comments", too. They add stories of more wolf-sightings, some attempts at humor, and some controversy all wrapped into one article with appendages. Hope its of interest...

If so, the comments are very interesting. Watch Josephine! Don't want her to end up like the min pin in the story!

Neighbor: oh, is that a mini doberman?
Me: no, he's a miniature pinscher
Neighbor: yeah, isn't that what I said?
Me: no (walk away)
Araks, just an FYI Shao New's boyfriend is the mini pin across the street, so please don't be offended that I said they were fragile ;-)
Like Araks said, there's no such thing as a Miniature Doberman. The Miniature Pinscher predates the Doberman by at least a few hundred years, and are not closely related. They share the same ancestor in German Pinschers, not each other.
It's like if someone said that a Shiba was a "Miniature Akita"..
I hate it when people ask if Luna is a "Miniature Doberman".... if anything, Lantis is a "king-sized Miniature Pinscher"..
But I can't tell you how often I'm seen printed in the news that someone's "Miniature Doberman" did one thing or the other..
And without further ado, some OT Luna/Lantis spam:
Irene: Not sure what's going on with the hunting of the wolves that you mention. Wolves (including the MN timberwolf) have been on the endangered list for a long time (methinks many decades, at least). Now I have heard they have been "delisted", so to speak, in some areas of the U.S. because they are so plentiful. I guess that means there is a hunting or trapping season, too? Anyway, not so in MN. in spite of these stories of the dogs being taken and people discussing large packs of them out and about. My husband rescued Josephine from one about 15 months ago (was chasing the doggie, and then stalked Steve out of the woods as he carried her out on the trail). He said his one regret was that he did not have a camera as the wolf was beautiful. But he loves Josephine better, so he carries a gun when he goes in the woods with Josephine now, and the MN Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has given him permission to shoot the wolf if the dog or himself is in danger. He has seen one wolf on the game camera this spring, and saw at least two stalking a young fawn about a month ago.
