To the Zoo!~ [ caution: tons of pics ]

edited November 2009 in General
So...We went to the zoo the other day! I thought it'd be a great chance for me to really put my S90 to the test! So I left the dSLR at home & snapped about 850 photos.

All shots were handheld in P, Av, or M mode. Some post processing done to all of them.

Sorry, I'm just REALLY impressed [ & in love! ] with my new toy! Sp I just had to share...& hey, who doesn't like animals here? ;p

I'm rather impressed. Sometimes lugging around a SLR and extra lenses gets a bit tiring, and I certainly don't want to take it into the mountains hunting. Your pics are giving me something to think about.

Great pics Osy...I love that gold and black snake, it almost looks like someone got messy with charcoal.

Wow. I'm very impressed. Just goes to show you it's not about how expensive the camera is, it's about the skills of the person looking through the viewfinder! Of course having a good canvas helps too. :-)

Wicked shots! I love them! I also appreciate that you didn't post/take any photos of spiders lol.

Beautiful photos! I would never have though they came from a point and shoot!

Wow. I am impressed! And all that from a Canon, too. :-P

I wish I had a zoo like that around here. I love all the frogs!!!

    Cool photos!
I have to say that camera has me very impressed, for all the tests I've read of it. It's great to see camera makers abandon the whole megapixel marketing war and focus on making larger sensors with larger pixels that are more immune to noise. It sounds like a great "side arm" :-P
    Very well chosen "weapon", Osy!

Shigeru --- I really can NOT recommend this camera more. When I use to sell photography equipment [ from crappy tiny fujis P&S to the $7k Canon 1D ] I swear, there was no camera out in the market like this, & that was only 8 months ago! The camera came out last month, & for 3 weeks it was sold out everywhere, online or in store. It has the same sensor as the G11 while being TINY, a fast f/2 lens, & usable ISO up to 800 [ tho I've seen some amazing shots at even ISO 1600 ] Not to mention the full manual controls like on an SLR. It's also SUPER customizable. For example, in Av mode, I have the front lens-ring set to control EV & the back ring set to control Aperture & the "shortcut" button to White Balance.

If I HAD to have one complaint it'd be you can't select focus points like on an SLR. [ but hey, it's not an SLR it's a P&S ;) ] Other than that, I have zero complaints & only praise for the cam! It's low-light performance is just amazing. I posted some low-light photos in the Photography Thread if you're curios.

Here's a crop for you to get an idea of IQ:

Beth --- Isn't he adorable! :D He was such a good model, sitting perfectly still LOL

Dave --- Thanks! I'm trying really hard to improve my photography skills :D Tho I'll tell you, I got the cam for $360 from my future FIL's discount, but I would've gladly paid the $430 for it! :)

Kyla --- LOL! I actually like photographing spiders, but there weren't ne ;p But Now I know to warn you ahead of time! LOL

Brittney --- Thanks! Brad --- Yep! New Guinea Singing Dogs :) They remind me a lot of our beloved Nihon Ken! The zoo keeps a pair of them!

Casey --- Hey hey! No canon bashing :p LOL I love shooting frogs, all the different colours are so amazing!

Rui --- Thanks Rui! I researched the camera for 2 weeks, & kept trying to convince meself NOT to buy it [ I was litteraly glued to the dpreview.com forums ] when the fiancee picked it up as a gift for me :) [ so sweet of him to fuel my photography obsession LOL ] I'm really happy that I have a cam that I can carry around AND take some nice pics with :D

I have some more photos to post-process...so this is not the end of this thread! Moihahaha ~
