The Neighbor's Dogs

edited November 2009 in General
Are driving me nuts!!!

We own a condo, & the neighbors indirectly below us own 3 poodles.

Ah yes, poodles. Fluffy, cute, kind, quiet poodles...WRONG!!!

These three dogs are MONSTERS! Yes. I said it. Osy, who loves ALL dogs thinks the three next door are monsters. [ shaped that way by their owners. ]

First off, they are LOUD and ALL THREE are always insistently barking! Dave [ R. ] had the fortune of hearing them through my CLOSED window the other day over the PHONE.

Secondly, when NEONE walks BY the condo [ which we HAVE to do to get into our own house ] They start barking mad! They snarl, they bare their teeth, & start lunging at us!

Thirdly, I, the insomniac, when I FINALLY manage to get a bit of sleep, am woken up at 5.30am to these dogs going off! It scares the living Shit out of me every time!

Fourthly, these dogs are NEVER. EVER. on leash. ALWAYS off leash, snarling, baring teeth, barking, etc. etc. I am just WAITING for one to get near me, I so badly want to give them a good kick D<

Now of course, the logical, analytical side of me says, OBVIOUSLY it's the OWNER's fault the dogs are like this. I mean, when the dogs go barking-mad the owner's solution is to scream "SHUT UP!" at the top of their longs. [ Oh? That's working? NOT! I wonder why?! ] With an occasional slap to their hindquarters. Grrr.

But the non-logical side is saying, I'm the one has to put up with these dog's BS because their owners aren't raising them properly!

Sorry. I was just really looking to rant & rage. I love dogs. I am very tolerable with dogs. We have a LOT of dogs in our complex, from Pits to Mastifs to Burmese Mountain Dogs, chihuahuas, poms, retrievers, etc. I do not mind occasional barking. In fact, it makes me smile.

But MAN! Hearing nothing but rabid barking / growling / screaming is driving me MAD!

---

The only thing I can take comfort in is the fact that these 3 poodles HAVE to make for great security. Don't think neone's coming near our condos with the 3 menaces waiting to kill!

</rant>~

Hahahah. I'm SORRY to HEAR that! IT doesn't SOUND very PLEASANT. I WOULD suggest SAYING something TO the OWNERS. It SOUNDS like THEIR dogs ARE a LIABILITY that COULD get THEM in SERIOUS trouble. AND I'm SURE they ARE extremely ANNOYING.

(And yes, I was making fun of your excessive capitalization :-P)

I don't like poodles either, & NOW I ESPECIALLY don't like them!!! LOL

Dave - REALLY?!?!? Cut me some slack! I've been coding the past 3 days!...& didn't feel like typing up more code to EMPHASIZE my POINT in BOLD vs the EASIER CAPITALIZATION! :p ~

Oh there's always at least one (insert small ballistic ill-mannered off-leash yappy wee dog) in any neighborhood.

But hey, offer up some training help while you're waiting for your dog. Poodles (even the small ones) are smart. Then everybody wins :)

I understand how you feel...the neighbors have a mini poodle and they'll leave it outside, unleashed, in the front yard. That thing barks at anything that moves and they always have to let it out whenever we let the boys out. It's so annoying when that dog stands just out of reach of the boys and doesn't stop barking and peeing on everything. Tikaani did give that dog quite a scare (as well as us) when he got loose and chased it back to it's house. LOL, he cornered it and tried to entice it to play. Stupid thing peed all over the front porch of it's house. But that didn't teach anyone a lesson.

Since you live in a condo, isn't there a complaint department? There's nothing wrong with having a dog, but if it is a nuisance and a liability (who knows when a kid might run up to them) it is the responsible thing to make this issue known.

Following up on Beth's comment, how many dogs are you allowed to have in one condo? There's a law in California that says I believe 2 pets for a 2 bedroom condo. (I used to work in property management a long long time ago)

I have a woman down the way that has 5 of these yippy dogs. She used to have 8 and 3 cats until the authorities came and took some away. She's a total hoarder. I love dogs too, but I can't wait for Koda to finally man up to them and give them a little snarl, growl, or bark back.
