    Wow! She's a cutie!
You must be so happy after all the waiting and hard work to get her.
How is she doing with your other dogs? It looks like they're getting along OK in the picture.

    I'm soooo jealous :)

Congrats on the Shiku pup! She's awesome. Can't wait to see better pics :), maybe try video :p. She kinda reminds me as a female version of Shoushuu as a puppy!

btw - What is that in the background - a stuffed coyote?

YAY! :-D Very glad that you guys made it home safe and sound. She seems to be getting along quite well. How are Levi and Gin taking the new addition. And does she have a name yet?

Either way, she is quite adorable. :)

Well things have been really crazy between the three Levi at this point hates her & growls like a wolf every time he sees her . Gin is totally afraid of her because she jumps on her to play & Gin instantly goes into submission mode. We walked two at a time today & Levi did pretty good , but Gin is still afraid of her. We are measuring success one baby step at a time. We think we are going to call her Koshi.Sorry the pics were so terrible , she has no idea to "hold the pose until the flash" I'll get some more up soon . Corina I'm sorry that got in the shot ,but it is actually a grey fox I shot many years ago :( Tara I think Koshi just got you one step closer to your new pup!!

At first quick glance, I thought you had an exotic canine living in your home amongst the Nihon Ken, LOL.

Shikoku puppies are HORRIBLE little monsters...they can be very "rude" and are extremely rough in play style. This doesn't mix well with a lot of dogs. So don't let her "walk all over" the Shibas. She needs to learn to respect their space. Going out for daily walks and doing a lot of other (outside) pack activities is a great way to get the Shibas more comfortable around her. Try exercising all the anxiety and energy out of the puppy before allowing interaction with the Shibas. Shikoku are less of a trouble-maker when tired, lol.

It's better to get a handle on the pup while she's still young. Shikoku are very impressionable at a young age. Once they reach adulthood though, they're pretty reactive and kinda set in their ways. So if Gin can't "protect" herself or correct the puppy for "bad behavior", you need to step in and set some boundaries...so that the puppy doesn't continue to make a habit of jumping on Gin and Gin doesn't continue to have bad experiences with the puppy.

Believe you me, it's much easier to set boundaries before habits take place. Once a habit forms...it takes a lot more effort and management to "fix" them and sometimes an environment change.

What does Koshi do when Levi growls at her? Does she leave him alone or try to pester him?

Hello Two-socks, it seems you ran into the same challenge as we did. Our pup is trying to be rough on Reno&Rico but both are too strong and tough for him. So far not much of acceptance, but Reno seems to get a bit better now. Let's walk a lot, I think Corina made a good point there. And combined walking seems much easier for all of them to get used to each other. Keep us posted on the progress.

Very cute pup. Glad the trip went well for the little one.

Koshi sounds like Saya they probably would be great playmates! lol

We have a older 13 year old catahoula coon hound mix she's getting old and Saya loves to jump on her, grab her tail, grab her neck and pull on it well she just loves to push Dink's buttons.. lol Dink has tried to correct her not meanly she'll bark loud and snap at her not close to biting at her or anything of coarse Saya takes this with delight she'll bark back and go back to bugging Dink or do her shiba 500 and go back to antagonizing Dink.

I just stop Saya from her antics by distracting her with her favorite toy if that doesn't work I'll step in and just tell her to go she usually listens and walks away. I'm still working with the leave it command so hopefully when that's mastered she'll leave Dink when I tell her too.

Give your shiba inu some time it'll take awhile for the dogs to get used to the new pup and her crazy antics soon they'll be best of friends just make sure Koshi doesn't bug the shibas too much.. hehe

Excellent advice! When Levi growls Koshi is not phased in the least, she just keeps coming toward him so we've actually been walking her around the house on a leash & just letting Levi get used to her being "present" in his house with out having to deal with her "touching him" lol Actually he's starting to ignore her. We just got back from a walk together & things went well. Gin has learned one thing today - she's faster than Koshi!! That made her happy :)

Saya is the same way when she bites at Dink if Dink were to growl or bark at her she's not phased in the least she just wants to keep playing with her or something..

I'm sure as the weeks go by things will get better. =)

Dave: Koshi is absolutely adorable! Every bit worth the wait... Sounds like things are beginning to get sorted out among the three doggies... More pics, please, when you have the time and luck to capture a cool photo of Koshi and the other pups.

Take care and enjoy the new baby...

Here's a couple more photos. So far things are going very well. I will say Koshi is very stubborn on leash she walks where she wants not where I want. If she doesn't like the direction I choose she just sits.

I'm luvin all the Shika pups! Her mask is too cute.

Koda was the same way on leash. I thought to myself, oh no!!! He was so stubborn, it was ridiculous. He still is sometimes, but he's good on the leash now. She'll get the hang of it.

Thanks Nico. How is Shousei today?!!
  • edited November -1
    Your welcome Dave,

Shousei is doing verry good, he is such a sweet and nice dog, and above all: he is a very quick learner.
    How is Koshi doing today?

Funny that we got our shikoku's from Japan around the same time.
  • edited November -1
You guys, it would be even funnier if both pups were from the same litter...But what are the odds of that happening
  • edited November -1

    Congrat Dave!
