Hilo is hilarious!!! I love how he was pushing Kona away with his rear legs. Kona is growing soooo fast!!! Maybe it was the angle of the camera...but he looks bigger than Kaia now???
I know, it's really cute... Kona is so submissive to Hilo. When Hilo tells him "NO!" Kona just rolls over and does this silly dance (like in the video).
Kona is about the same size as Kaia now, maybe a bit bigger - but as Rachael pointed out, it doesn't take much to be bigger (in size) than Kaia.
Yes, Kona is much more cat like than the others... tho Loa and Kona are both better climbers than any of the other dogs were at their age(s) [and therefore more cat like]. Kona is super loving but only in a cat like way (I'm generalizing here)... like he is fine for getting love and snuggles if he is in the mood, but if you pick him up and bring him to the couch for some snuggles he will just grunt and then get up and leave.
Interesting thing I have noticed - Kona's feet are rather small, especially if you compare them to the Shikoku (and obviously the Akita)... so I wonder if he will not be very big or if the breed just tends to have smaller feet???
So far, as far as personality goes, I would say Kona is more a mix between an Akita Inu and a Shiba Inu, with a little of the Shikoku prey drive and reactiveness (Kona may even have more of a prey drive than Ahi and Loa - which is pretty amazing).
PS: Our house may look big but its not, only 1300sf... its a little misleading because half the house is one big room.
I think you are right about the behavior thing, he seems to approach Hilo and if he is in the mood to hang out, Kona will just plop down on top of Hilo... but if Hilo is not in the mood Kona will go through the most elaborate display of submission and offering - it looks like a silly dance or something.
Kona's tail is great - he looks like a little helicopter.
Our Shibas and Loa will allow us to grab them and put them on the couch for snuggles. They will stay as long as we continue to pet them, if we stop they leave. If we could actually lift Hilo and get him onto our lap I'm sure he would be the same way... only there would be a lot more slobber involved.

That is so cute! Hilo is such a muppet! I know I say that all the time. Kona seems to have cat like characteristics also...?
It doesnt take much to be bigger than Kaia! Kaia is the Portia of Shiba's

Kona couldn't possibly have been offering more appeasing behavior to Hilo. Look at his tail go. Such a different tail for a Japanese breed.
Also Kaia is such a Shiba, Kona walks over and she just bites him on the nose "my dad, back off".
Do your other dogs put up with being put on the couch and then stay for petting? Nemo still doesn't do that, I don't think he ever will.
