Just some pics from the Tenrankai last Sunday. I'll post about it on my blog later. Was a very fun day with pretty good spring weather. The cherry blossoms were in bloom, a wonderful time to be in Japan. Have a bit of video to add later.
I wait and wait for you to post pics of the Aigokai! I love seeing all the Kai together. It's not quite as good as being there, but I'm glad I get to live a piece of it through your pics and videos. (I know that's so dramatic, but these threads are my fav's)
This year a couple from Oregon came over to pick up Kai pups and see the Tenrankai. I showed them around Tokyo a bit, and drove them to Yamanashi for the show. They had an absolute blast, as did I. Everyone was thrilled to have foreigners at the show, and kept coming up to talk to them and take pictures with them. Haru's breeder Inoue-san loved it as well and introduced them to everyone. We even ended up with the judges coming over to my car to hang out and see the pups that were going overseas. Beautiful weather, cherry blossoms, amazing dogs, friendly people trying to give you all sorts of Japanese food, what more could you want. We even had some BBQ venison and boar to go with loads of sashimi.
So... all you Kai lovers, get your buts over here to Japan for the Fall show! Free rides from Tokyo to Yamanashi, and free translator to boot I'm not sure if I'll be showing Haru again, but I'll hopefully be showing a Kai (or two?) /wink
I do want to get back to Japan. Maybe next Spring? I just remodeled the kitchen, and $$ is a little tight. ha ha. It would be like being in Kai heaven!
I went to tenrankais when I was a kid with my Dad but one of these days I really want to go and see one again. Those are some good looking Kai ken........any of them hunting dogs?
Apparently word has gotten around about Haru and I, and a group of guys who hunt big game with their Kai came over to see her and talk to me. Was great meeting more hunters and getting to see their dogs as well. Some of them looked a bit iffy as far as conformation goes, but I was surprised to find out that none of them are from 'working' lines. They just picked pups out of litters that seemed likely to hunt. We talked about it, and while it's a bit hit/miss, apparently with the Kai more often than not it's a hit. I didn't get pictures of them, but will probably be seeing more of them, so will take some then.
On an entirely different note, here's a video of one of my friend's students working on some obedience with her Kai outside the ring at the Tenrankai.

Thanks!

I love seeing these.
The last one in the first batch- beautiful head on that dog. Nice color. I'll take that one.
My dog can do the 3rd picture down. Do they expect them to lunge? Are they facing them off purposely?
