What do you recommend?

This is probably a question about dogs in general. I go camping every year and since I'm thinking about getting an Akita in the future I was wondering if it is a good idea to bring them along?
I know I want to go to sites like Yosemite.
Since it's known for having bears around is it not a good idea to bring any
companion? (i.e. barking and smells may cause bears to come close)

Yosemite is a pain in the ass with dogs. Just to let you know. I would leave them at home unless you want to miss everything good to see there. I leave mine and go up every Memorial Day Weekend.

    Thanks for the advice.
Is it the same for all campsites or just state parks?

I bring my dogs camping, just not there. I think Mt. Diablo next to my house is a state park and allows dogs. Ofcourse, I've only taken them up for hikes on the trails. It's restricted in some areas, but not all. Check out www.dogfriendly.com. They should have some suggestions. My iPhone also has an application that I use. :-)
