The Eurasian Spitz

It is interesting...I was particularly interested in the part about how one dog can shape your view of what a dog can be. I also keep thinking of other so-called ancient breeds that are actually very modern, such as the Pharoah Hound.

but I was also very intrigued by Lorenz's disproved theory that dogs cam from two species of wild dogs. It's one of those examples of synchronicity, because I was thinking about the Asian wolf, lately and then came across some info. about dholes (the wild dogs, not the Lovecraftian creatures :) ):

If you go fairly far down in this Wikipedia article you'll see that at one point Dholes were proposed as the ancestor of the domestic dog:

I was struck by the very wide range of the Dhole, and how much they look like some of the Nihon-ken (well, they look my red girl Shiba, except for of course the tail!)

Anyway, hope this isn't a total hijack of your thread, but it connected in my mind :)

Not a hijack of the thread.

I posted it because I think the Nihon Ken/Shiba forums find it interesting to hear about other "spitz-type" dogs. Also, we've had some dynamic discussions about dog breeding, created breeds, etc.
