Kai Ken Imports - Round II: Introducing Kumi & Kibou!
Well, this past weekend I picked up our second round of Kai Ken imports (from Japan). We got another male/female pair, we named the female "Kumi" and the male "Kibou".
Jen and I have been very busy this week, so I have not taken very many pictures. Actually, I took several but they didn't come out very well. So, I will need to take some more in the next few days and post them here.
This is what I have so far...
Kumi & Kibou:
Kumi:
I also have this video of Mochi, Kona, Kumi, and Kibou playing...
They are both really nice Kai, I am particularly smitten with Kumi, she is very cute and really seems to like me. ) Kibou is VERY sweet and has a super cute face. True to my experience with Kai Ken, they both assimilated quickly and well with the other dogs - even Ahi seems to like them!
Kumi is very nicely built and compact, she's like a little sports car or something. Kibou we need to wait and watch, he's a bit awkward, but I think this may be because he's gonna be bigger than average - he has a lot of extra skin.
We are very pleased with both of them. We have our fingers crossed on these guys, as our importing success thus far has averaged 0/3. :oT

I think this is the one Brad and Jen! The US has been waiting for these guys. Thank goodness new blood. For once, they are not Koda's cousins in some way.
I keep going back & forth on which one I like more lol
Praying this pair works out ~
I can't wait to see more pictures. =)
Not to put Kibou down but,I think I'm more excited about Kona x Kumi pups eventually... Just think, Kona's rugged, thick, physic with Kumi's tight little muscle body and nice brindle. Sounds nice, huh? )
Anyway, a special thanks to Shigeru for all the help on these efforts. He's been my eyes over there (as well as a networking ninja) and I couldn't have done this without him! We've been working on this for a long time! Thanks man!

@Gen - I'd love to get some boar and do some training, but unfortunately I am not allowed to have pigs on my property (home owners association rule). I've talked to a few local hunters and no one hunts pig here, we are too far north for them I guess. Most people hunt Elk, Cat, and Bear... and, well, I guess I am just not ready to hunt those animals since they are not really of population concern like Boar are.
You know Cimarron is only like an hour from us! We should meet up if you have time!

Just a little story for everyone on the forum, Kumi's sire is Musashi out of Tenro Kensha. He's the aka-tora from the thread titled 'athletic feets'. Tenro Kensha (Tenro Kennel) is a hunting/conformation kennel in Saitama prefecture. If you take a look at their website the kennel owner specifically states that he doesn't accept requests to breed his aka-tora. Kumi's mother comes from a different kennel, and her owner is a friend of a friend. He lives nearby Tenro Kensha and somehow managed to get the okay for this breeding. Kumi was not on offer, as she was picked as the best of litter and was going to be kept by her dam's owner.
When I saw the litter they were all very nice, but I knew I wanted Kumi. I grew some balls and after an afternoon sipping tea blurted out that, 'I want the pup with the red collar!' Somehow I was not sent home packing. It didn't look too promising, but when I mentioned that she was exactly the type of pup a friend in the States wanted, her breeder got interested. Eventually after a bit of going back and forth, I got the reply that they'd be willing to give her up if she was going to the States as part of Brad's breeding program.
Hopefully she will grow into the type of Kai that Brad and Jen are looking for. Good luck guys!
Here's a picture of Musashi I took a while back. I may be going to visit Tenro Kensha on Sunday, and if I do I'll see if I can get some shots of the dogs.
Musashi is a handsome kai ken I love his look and brindling.
What's the lineage like behind Kibou? He also has an akatora parent?
@Romi - I really like the name Kumi. )
Ok, I got some new pics of Kumi and Kibou...
Kumi:
*She likes to chew the sagebrush a lot.
Kibou (its hard to get good shots of him because he is always laying around chewing something):
*Shows his brindle
