Doggy Dream Job

edited June 2010 in General
Thought this would be fun :p

If you lived in a perfect world where you could have any job making great money off of doing something you love with dogs [ or any other animal ]...what would it be?

---

Guess I'll start! I'd love to be a pet photographer! I think it'd be amazing to just take pictures of different pets all day, in all sorts of environments, doing all sorts of things. I think, while pictures can never show any animals true personality...I think they do convey something important.

Now, if only a sustainable income could be made off that :p ~

or a professional hunter. I'd be out there all day every day.

Shigeru - You'd be in perfect shape after a month of that straight :p [ & would run out of things to hunt quickly? LOL ] ~

I dont think there is any job better (for me) than being a cop......if I had all the money and time in the world I would do it for free. BUT I would love to be a Professional hunter or maybe a wildlife biologist. As a matter of fact I maybe working as a Fish and Game warden/Conservation Police Officer for the state of California by this time next year. I just applied for a lateral transfer so I hope I get it.

    Ooo good luck Gen!

My dream animal related job would be to work with tigers. If I ever win the lotto I don't play you can bet your butt I'll open up a tiger sanctuary.

Yeah, good luck Gen. sounds like a great job for you!

If I could do anything, I'd like to be a holistic healer of dogs, someone who works with herbal remedies, massage, nutrition, massage. Not a vet per se, but more a naturopath. While that is not likely to happen, it's more likely than my other fantasy, which is to be a breeder of Shibas. On that last one, I think it's a bit late for me to get into the whole showing thing, and if I'm not showing and active in shiba stuff, I'd just be a BYB which I don't want to be. It's all part of my "fantasty farm" dream life in which I have a little farm with lots of dogs and some goats, and better garden space, and my only job is to take care of the place!

My dream would be a Wildlife photographer, or work with wolf/coyote conservation. Eventually I plan to do that the local wolf park does wolf behavior classes and few other things so I plan to take the classes and volunteer there. I plan to take photography classes too.

My dream job is having my own wolf sanctuary where I rescue wolves that are in need and wolf dogs I'm sure there plenty of wolf dogs out there that need to be rescued from owners that keep them as a status symbol..

I have coyotes that lives in my fields which I never bother they are free to roam and kill all the bunnies they want to. Luckily we are in the country so they run as soon as they hear me.

sadly someone tried to poison the coyotes or some type of wildlife some person left a whole chicken in my field it had rat poison inside of it.. Grr!

I threw it right away and told everyone that lived near me that happened and how I didn't like it since my dog could have eaten it and died. Nothing like this has happened after I told all the neighbors sadly I had no way of proving who did it.. I mean we are in the country you expect deer, coyotes, fox, and badgers don't you? Don't like it move to the city.. It made me so sick to find out it had rat poison inside of it and in between the chicken's skin.

That's one of the reasons I want to work on educating people on these wild animals. Urban coyotes are scary due to their bold behavior, but from my experiences country coyotes or at least the ones in my area run the other way when they see me walking.

That's why I walk in the trails with a big stick so far everything runs away I mean the dogs rabies tags makes enough noise to wake the dead so that helps.. lol

That's REALLY scary about the poison in the chicken....my dogs would have eaten that right up, since they eat raw chicken for dinner! Ugh. What kind of idiot would do something like that?

I think coyotes are gorgeous, but I do have some mixed feelings about them as they are so bold where I live....they come into the yard, they attacked my girl Shiba, and some of the big ones don't seem afraid of people at all...And they've chased all the foxes away :(

But they live here, and there's nothing to do it about except to try to be vigilant about my dogs....And I do like hearing them at night even if it sets Bel into fits of crazy, protective barking!

ok, sorry for the hijack, but that thing about the chicken really set me off....

Omg... rat-poison is really horrible! Etsu grabs and swallows everything he finds on the way if I can't take it away from him quickly enough, so I get really afraid, whenever I hear about poisoned food...

My dream-job is being a writer and I would sooo much love to breed Shikokus and/or Czechoslovakian Wolfdogs... Since as a writer I could work anywhere I wanted to, both dreams could be combined... I could work at home or somewhere in the woods with the dogs or on the beach etc...
What a luck, that my heart beats for more "exclusive" breeds like NK and CW. A friend of mines who breeds GSD told us what she had to pay and what she earns for one litter and what remained was well... hardly anything. With "more expensive" breeds you don't become rich as well, but it would be enough to pay the dog-food, taxes and maybe to put something at the side for the vet, if you have at least two breeding-bitches.
But dogs have become my life. I would keep and maybe breed them occasionally even if I get no money out of it at all, as long as I can afford it!

I'm young and I will at least try to let my dreams become reality! :)

Studying, working and interacting with Wild Orca (Orcinus Orca) has always been a dream of mine. For awhile I wanted to be a Dolphin Trainer with a heavy focus on Orcas. Unfortunely my aquatic skills are limited...but perhaps as a "hobby", I may someday get in at least a Summer spent researching Wild Orca populations.

Right now, I'd like to eventually open up a small Conservation Center for Exotic Felines (hopefully within the next 20 years or so - when I'm not traveling as often for long periods of time). Beginning with private ownership of a small "wild" feline and then eventually my Cheetah =p. I strongly support responsible private ownership of exotic felines in the "right" hands. I believe the cats do better in this kind of environment. I don't think a zoo is the best environment for them. I want my 100 acres for a reason and I'm still not sure 100 acres will be large enough for what I want, lol. I want to give them lots of space for privacy and a sense of natural environment. Yet, at the same time I want to give them all "one on one" attention and a forever home...really the 2nd best thing to "the wild". Since they will need to interact with a limited amount of humans...for safety reasons...they will need to be trained and socialized as best as possible. My Conservation Center would include various smaller felines, Caracals, Servals, Cheetahs, Jaguars and Leopards. Right now I have no intentions of having a Tiger or Lion. I did at one point want to focus on Tigers...but after doing lots of research I've decided that the Tiger is not suited for me and best to be admired from afar. However, I *may* not be opposed to taking in a Lion someday as well. We shall see what the future will bring forth.

I also want to train animals of all kinds for TV/Film work (those that are suited for this kind of work).

Meanwhile...I'm doing Doggie Daycare & Kennel work, as well as Dog Training to keep me occupied until I can work up to my "Dream Animal Job(s)".

In the end though...I'm just super happy working with my personal animals. And in life...that's really all I want to continue doing. Animal Breeding, Care, Training, Sportwork/Activites and Conservation. If I ever had a purpose for existing...it would be for the animals. I simply cannot live fully without them. A life is just worth living with and for another life.

*** I love writing but apparently spelling isn't my strong point, lol!

I wanted to be a vet since I was a kid, and I'll stand by it.
Having loads of money and time, I'd probably try my hand at breeding too.

Gen, I am trying to become a Conservation Officer as well. I'm not, unfortunately, doing a lateral transfer and so I'm likely to wait for forever, but nevertheless, that's my dream job.

Keep at Kevin, its been my dream job forever although I do love being a street cop. Here in Ca you get your own 4X4 Police truck, work from home, work your own schedule, be out in the wilderness or out on the water. You cant ask for a better job imho, my only issue is I will be taking a pay cut so the watch commander at home is not too happy about it.

hehe "watch commander", best of luck to you Gen!

They don't make bad money here, and I live on very little. Also, I have no children and no plans for such. Perfect job. Enough said.
  • edited November -1
Good luck, Gen and Kevin. If there was something like that over here I'd be all over it.

Osy - Pet photography is getting bigger. I know a photographer in Atlanta that charges $300 a sitting for pets - her next appt. is almost 6 months away.

When I was younger I wanted to live in Alaska with my husky and photograph wildlife. Now that I'm older and sans husky, I want to do landscape photography. I've sold a couple of my pics, but not enough to make a living off of it! I've done photos of golf courses for my company and for ad campaigns, but their camera, their dime, their property.

If I lived in a perfect world, I'd get paid to do nothing but roll around with puppies and dogs all day long. :) Now if I could have any job today involving animals, I would like to perform studies involving dog psychology and behavior. I recently changed my college major to Psychology(human), so if I decide I want to get into a field involving dogs, I'll look into it in the psychological field.
