Oskar's thread: Oskar is (still) gigantic
Ok, I just got word from my breeder about which pup I'm getting....and it is the one who she calls Blake! So I'm going to start a thread for him (and I'll change the title once we figure out what we're going to name him!)
I'm just thrilled! I have a fair amount of pics of him already, because he is clearly a character--she had more pics of him than any of the other pups! He has a "twin" as there are two boys that look almost the same color/marking wise, and she said these two tend to separate themselves from the rest of the litter and are very funny and outgoing, and into things. I can't wait to meet him! We're leaving on Thurs. evening for the trek from NM to OR and will get him Saturday!
Without further ado, here are pictures of our boy:

Congratulations!
I know how hard you worked to make all of this happen and I am very excited for you.
I am so happy for you! He looks like he is going to definitely be a fun one.
He looks like an awesome pup!!!!! Only 4 days to go!
You mos def did your research and emotional work for this pup! I hope the trip goes well, I'm looking forward to hearing updates once he is home safe.

& you deff. can not go wrong with this handsome little dude! He's quite the character already
Have a list of names yet? ~
I wish you all the best for a safe trip and a wondering introduction to your little man.
I'm hoping the trip goes smoothly--1300 miles is a long way with a pup if he gets carsick or something! Most of the dogs I've gotten as wee pups have been fine in the car, so I'm hoping this will be the case with him too! Here at home I've got his crate and a whole passel of puppy toys ready, and I've been reading and rereading dog books like a maniac! (love Turid Rugass' Calming Signals btw!)
And of course things would work out like this: the other breeder who I met and loved her dogs just let me know that finally her bitch came into season, today! Too late for me, but.....If anyone is ever looking for an AA in the southwest/mid west, I think Liberty in Oklahoma is just wonderful too.
Hope you have a safe and happy trip!
Waiting for a new puppy update!!! :-P
Hope the trip went well and that Oskar is getting all settled in!
But after a 3,000 mile round trip, we're home, and he's home. He was great in the car, though he hadn't been in the car before, and was also new to a crate but was quiet in it. In general, he is a pretty mellow boy. He's clearly confident and curious, and watches me like crazy (which is great), but he also is pretty content to hang out by me or my husband, or now, his new favorite thing, to follow (and harass) a girl Shiba!
Dog intros were....interesting. I brought him in in his crate and Toby went ballistic and has not settled down since. Their only "meeting' has been with one of them in the crate or with Toby watching him through the window, and each time he sees him, he goes into a frenzy of barking and snarling, so as I suspected, it may be that they will not be together ever. Bel was cautious at first, but now is just delighted with him. She can play rough, so I'm very careful with supervised play, but after the first day when she found him sticking his nose up her butt incredibly rude, she's been pretty good with him. If he tires her, she goes upstairs, since for now he can't climb stairs. She usually wants to be outside, but now she finds him so fascinating she wants to be with him. He's already 15 lbs, so he's half her size!
Some things about a young pup I remembered well: the constant peeing (which means I haven't slept well since we got him!), the chewing (but he's easy to redirect right now), etc. But I'd forgotten how much they sleep, so of course I was paranoid at first--is he ok? Yep, just a puppy. he went to the vet yesterday and fell asleep on the exam table! And he LOVES water....which means that if I don't remember to pick up the dish after he's had a drink, he gets in it. I can see that wet floors--and a wet puppy--will be the norm.
The breeder, btw, was fantastic--really nice and her dogs are gorgeous, and Oskar's father is HUGE! I bet he's about 120 lbs. All the dogs got along with one another, and all were clearly well socialized, healthy and happy. It was so cool to walk into a house with three adult Akitas wandering around (one who greeted my husband by jumping up then licking him in the face!) and a Chow and a Basenji, and it was fun to watch the interactions: the Basenji acted almost EXACTLY like my female Shiba, even in the way she moved, and her play style (ie jumping on other dogs and nipping at the neck, which is also what Oskar does to her, which she seems to enjoy less when she is the target of it!)
Anyway, pics!

I hear you on the lack of sleep. I feel like I have a newborn in the house again.
I'm glad Bel is doing well with him. =)
Can't wait to see more pictures.
Keep up with the updates and more spam please!
Don't let the little guy fool you, he's probably still tired out from the long trip! Wraith was an angel the first two days, & I know better now...he was just experiencing Jet-lag! LOL
Good luck with the constant peeing! It'll get better over time haha ~
