Is Hokkaido rare outside Japan?

I just browsed through the danish nihon ken breeders (mostly shiba and akita ofcourse) and I found out that we have recently added a Hokkaido breeder to our ranks here in Denmark. I had an impression that this breed is not so common in Europe, so it kinda took me by surprise.

But I may be wrong?
Is hokkaido a commonly seen breed outside Japan?

    You can count the number of hokkas in the US with one hand haha. Not a single breeder here.

    That's what I thought. Unless I'm wrong, there's a breeder in Poland and at least one owner in France (both in here) but otherwise I know nothing of the breed really. It just surprised me, to find that we have a hokkaido breeder in Denmark!!

    We have also very recently added a shikoku breeder, the first and only shikoku in Denmark has been bred to a male from the Netherlands. Shigeru has had contact with this breeder I believe, cause she searched initially for semen from Japan...

    And a friend of mine is starting up a kai kennel (she is going to have the male kai pup that Shigeru is taking care of until departure for Denmark). So in one year, more or less, Denmark has added 3 breeds to their kennels, hokkaido, shikoku and kai!

    Thanks Mirka, so they are apparently not as rare in Europe as they are in the US...

    I'm pretty sure there are 2 hokka breeders in Poland. Ewa and Robert.

    Tanja you never know where our NK are going to pop up. I saw a woman walking her Kais in Rome of all places. She turned out to be a breeder.

    Tara, yeah, you're right about that. And they are so easily recognizable that they are recognised at once by NK lovers... ;)

    Well I'm certainly glad that the NK world of Denmark is expanding. Can only be good news, as long as it's serious breeders, who know what they're doing.

    In France, there is one Hokkaido breeder with beautyful japan import. Kyuden Kitsune kennel.
    just for information.In Finland there is one too.
