Oskar has microphthalmia (anyone know anything about this condition?)

  • I did get an email from the breeder this morning, who said that she's found conflicting info. on micro/nanophthalmia. Some say nano (probably more likely what Oskar has since he has the small eye but no damage) is a birth defect, and some say genetic, and some say not (there was something about a chromosonal abnormality as a possibility). She said she found the lack of real information frustrating, but then said that as a breeder, she has to go forward with the idea that this IS a genetic defect, even if it isn't, and so she's going to have to change her breeding plans entirely.

Anyway, I expected that she's come around to that--she's been too concerned about health already to ignore something like this, and I think she's doing the right thing, though I'm sure it's hard to do!
  • It sounds like she's handling everything with the utmost class. You seem to have found a great breeder, and someone who will be there for support throughout Oskar's life. :-)
