Rubit Dog Tag Clip

edited January 2011 in Products & DIY
Every once in a while I find something that I think is just great! I have been looking for a good dog tag clip for a couple of months now.

Koda and Mei have several different harnesses and collars depending on where we are going, ie hiking they have packs. I'm always switching their tags. I got them both the standard loop around with a plastic clip, but lost Koda's hiking around a lake. It's been a pain to find a good one, but today I did.

It's called the Rubit Dog Tag Clip and it is really sturdy and has a spring loaded clip on it. I think that it would be almost impossible to lose this one.

  • Thats perfect, I always have to take the dog tags off the dog cause they ri them off in thick brush. That looks really sturdy.
  • Gen that's my problem too with hiking. The dogs are usually off leash and they run through brush, but it makes me nervous to not have tags on them. Even though they are both chipped, it's still the difference between someone calling me if they found my dog or me waiting for them to hopefully take them to a vet/shelter to have their chip scanned.

The spring on the clip is really tight. It's really a nicely made product.
  • Thanks Tara! I've been looking for a clip too! Since I have a variation of collars and harnesses for her and needed a clip to move her tags around easily.
  • Ooo looks nice.
  • That's neat! I've seen something like that at Petco before, dunno if it's the same product.
I just use sturdy heavy-duty S hooks from the hardware store for my tags since no matter what harness or collar I use, Conker has a separate one for his tags only.
  • @tjbart17, I always worry about the tags getting ripped off in thick brush, so I got a nameplate on Tyson's collar. It sits flat on the collar and is riveted on so I don't see it coming off. It's also great for hunting when I want him to be identified, but don't wan't the jingle of the tags to announce his presence to everyone within a mile of us.
  • I use tag collars from boomerang tags (boomerangtags.com).

However, for those who live in localities where you have to display your rabies tag, this is an excellent idea. In fact, I might order a couple for my two for when I go places that require the rabies tag to be displayed. :) Looks like it would be quite easy to hook to their harnesses.
  • Thats what I have on Taro and Hana right now Dave. I got them at Cabelas last summer, although I feel the quality o the collar isn't the best. I noticed that the blaze orange color will run off onto the dogs neck (really visible on Taro). So I have to take the collar off after every hunt near water and dry them out. Its a pain in the a@#!
  • I got mine from gundogsupply.com and I've been really happy with it. It's sturdy, cleans really easily, and the orange has stayed bright.
  • I was moving Ichigo's tags this weekend and thought how annoying this was. This is perfect!!

@dlroberts For your purposes, this definitely would be too loud. However, for my dogs, the noise might save a cat or two in the neighborhood. :-P

Plus, I need to have the dog's license on there as well as the identification tag.

@shishiinu You can get some spray lacquer for metal at the hardware store. This stops the color from rubbing off, and prevents scratches. I do this to all of Koda's tags.

@ichigo Yeah. I'm excited that someone can use this. BTW we need to meetup at Pt. Isabelle. This weather has got me wanting to be out and about.
  • I like this thing a lot! I think i need to get one. And I like the idea of the laquering the tags, too. I'd posted a thing about good tags on the Shiba side, because mine wear down too quickly (have to have the rabies tag too). Maybe that would help?

The collar tags are cool, but I have fancy collars with conchos on them, so the tag can't go on the collar.
  • That looks cool. I just ordered a collar tag from boomerang tags since she always has her collar on.
  • @tara YES we need to meet up! We actually just went to pt Isabelle for the first time this weekend and Ichigo had a blast. I'll have to post pictures. This weekend I'm planning on going to the Cow Palace show... Not sure if I'm going both days or not. How about next weekend? Hope the weather stays nice :)
  • I'm thinking of going to the Cow Palace show on Sunday, but I am not sure.
  • Maybe I'll see you there. I'll be meeting up with Ichigo's breeder, she has a dog or two entered :)
