This is crazy (the last dog in the vid)...

  • Oh God. The face bite is slightly terrifying.
  • Whoa... I hope I'm never on the receiving end of one of those dogs.
  • I might be a sick twisted person but I have been around when an actual bite takes place when a K9 unit is deployed and man there's nothing like a 270# perollee at large screaming for the dog to let him go...
  • the face bit was a little scary.
  • Oh, our dear eastern neighbour :D.
  • The face bite was unnerving, but the dog LOOKS (to me) like it's having so much fun: "don't worry guys--I am ALL over this!"

...in that way, I enjoy these sort of videos. It's fun to see the dogs while they're working. (Then again, I could be crazy)
  • lol @shishiinu

    No kidding!

  • That is very intimidating. Those dogs really slam into them. Yikes.

I, too enjoy seeing working dogs, though. It's very impressive. As for police dogs catching the baddies - well, that's just a job well done!
  • Ouch!!

But I bet it's a fail proof way to stop anyone that dog is chasing, and that's the dog's job...
  • I just can't imaging being that decoy that takes the face-bite like that. It would be incredibly scary even with the mask on... and you would be putting so much trust in that mask working. Ya know?

BTW - what do you think that mask is made out of? Burlap, leather, and foam?

Damn, that head biting technique is vicious but a neck bite would be even more savage, probably instant death.

I think the mask has gotta be made out of that stuff and maybe some kevlar fibre. knowing how cheap russia is I doubt they have the money for kevlar though so its probably made of mostly burlap and leather. That would be scary as hell but I've seen videos of russians on the internet doing really insane stuff, so its not that surprising one of them would be like "hey this is a good idea"
  • Yeah, I think eing the decoy would be scary.....Pretty impressive dog though.

My GSD seemed to instinctively do that....if he felt I was threatened, he went for the face/neck. Luckily, he only did it on a heavy bag (boxing bag) not a person....He thought it was a person swinging towards me, though, and once he jumped at a person--in a heated argument with someone--but I pulled him back. He came from dutch working lines, and had Schutzhund champions in his line, though I don't think that would really be something passed down? Or would it?

My Akita pup does it too, but, um, his intention is to LICK the face....still, gotta work on that as it is a bit scary for people to have such a big dog jumping up towards their face!

I've heard that german work and sport dogs can be pretty hard relatively speaking. I say that in comparison to GSDs bred in NA who are more shepherd-y, the ones I've met have reminded me of shelties I had known but bigger and more rambunctious. You can see a difference between Rottweilers from Germany and from NA too. My friend's Rottie was originally from Germany and I don't think she was a hard one for her gene pool back in Europe, but in comparison to NA Rotties I'd say she was harder than most. I'd imagine a GSD from those lines would be more predisposed to both being more attached and attentive to you and also being protective when they perceive a threat (not necessarily reactive though). That you only mentioned 2 times he reacted so noticeably is a good sign that he can judge a threat a little bit.

So your Akita is a biter and a licker? might not be the greatest potential PPD but he still might enjoy trying it
  • Hmm....I wonder if Oskar would like some bite work? He's certainly already interested in mouthing, esp. the arms/hands....He would see it as a game for sure.
