Cambodian Razorback (?)

edited March 2011 in Other Breeds
So, in my stumbles across this or that in the internet... I've found something! I'd never heard of this dog before - at all - and after looking into it, I'm not sure how I feel about the breed. With that ridge they LOOK interesting, that's for sure. Has anyone else heard about these dogs?

  • Besides the Rhodesian Ridgeback, which I believe is fairly common, I do know of a Thai Ridgeback that lives in my neighborhood. He's dark grey in color and is very muscular. Never heard of a Cambodian though.
  • Never heard of them before either! Neat!
  • Hmm... Never heard of them... But the dog in the video reminds me a bit of Nola with the flying ears and wagging tail! :)
  • Yes, I've heard of, and seen, Thai ridgebacks (I saw them in Thailand). I wonder if the Cambodian ridgeback is related, since it would be another primitive SE Asian breed....
  • I knew about the other ridgebacks, but never this one interesting.

The dog in the video looked like the happiest dog in the world. lol

We looked at this on the Thai Ridgeback forum I'm on: http://www.trdusa.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=77&t=2022&p=10876&hilit=cambodian&sid=2fa7e1107f13a098219c43698be2844d#p10876

Of the three ridged breeds (Rhodesian, Thai and Phu Quoc (also called the Viatnamese Ridgeback)) I think it most resembles a Phu Quoc. In the RR and TR the gene that causes the ridge is a dominant gene, so mixed breeds can have that ridge, too.
