Shaking when she sees Baby

edited March 2011 in Behavior & Training
So my sister gave birth 3 weeks ago, each time Mika has seen baby Benjamin she starts shaking. She also flips out and wants to be near him to make sure he's okay.

I thought she'd get over the shaking by now since she sees him quite often. Today I was holding Benjamin out in the front office and Mika could see him from her ex-pen and again her whole body was shaking as she sat there looking at Benjamin.

Has this happened to anyone else when their pups met a baby?

  • I wish I could help. Poor Mika. My sister and brother-in-law refuse to let Ichigo in the house with their new baby :( Talk about misinformation....
  • Sorry Mika is acting like this she might be not sure or nervous about the new baby.

Saya has only met toddlers who have been walking she was fine with them and young kids.

She did get afraid of older kids thanks to two boys charging at her and scaring her.

After that she is a bit not sure by kids of that age especially boys.

Do you have a treat that Mika really really loves? Maybe have her at a distance of the baby where she is comfy and doesn't shake and give her special treats and work up to getting tiny bit closer?

    Maybe thunder shirt would help?

I'm sure someone more experience with this will chime in soon.

Maybe have a blanket that the baby can be covered in or some type of item that can get some baby scent and then have the item in Mika's ex pen so she'll get used to the smell of the baby.

Good luck with things hope it works out.

When Matea came home, Rakka was a little jumpy around her. She's flinch at every little move, and if Matea started crying, Rakka would come running and watch her until she settled. Rakka had previously lived with children, and knew Isaac, who was almost 2 at the time, but the newborn little baby did kind of freak her out. She calmed down, though. Obviously she's fine with babies now, and I've posted a few videos of her interacting with babies.

My only advice would be to be patient, I guess. Does she get to touch him or sniff him? If she got a chance to just look him over completely, it might help. Maybe toss some treats her way.
  • Kia had the jitters a little when chase came home... I think it was an excitement thing.
  • I was thinking it was excitement too. I usually take for an afternoon walk, and that's usually when Benjamin wakes up from his nap hungry or needs a diaper change and he will cry. She will run over to my sister's office and scratch at the door to be let in to see him. Hopefully she calms down and stops shaking when she sees him. It just freaks me out when I see her shake lol.
