Met my first american akita.

edited August 2011 in General
Today we went to the dog park there was an akita and a setter type dog not sure..

The akita was so cute he is 14 months old. His first home was a bad one the owners called the breeder and said if you don't get this puppy I'm going to kill him I think that's what he said my mom told me so I'd have to ask again.. it so the breeder got the pup.

The breeder had a shiba and akita and unfortunately the shiba didn't like the new dog so the breeder found him a good home. Poor guy's ear was messed up and he had some other indications of abuse.

I was in the other dog area with Saya she needs some training and she did great came when called and did tricks. Saya met the two dogs at the fence she snarked at the setter, but once he play bowed she calmed down and play bowed back at him and yodeled. She did good with the akita.

I still kept her in the other side did work with her and stuff.

Tomorrow we'll be going to a charity dog walk type of thing at the park.

I wish I had the camera on me he was so cute loved his coloring and so friendly too he played well with Bella and the other dog.

  • What color was the Akita you met? Poor boy too, from having to live in such a place with an abusive person, but I'm glad the breeder took him back and then found him a new home.

I've seen some nasty AAs (and years ago had a terribly fearful one that was just horrible with other dogs and people) but I've seen more that are pretty easy going, fun, and kind of clownish.
  • He was white and brown with some black. He was pretty nice and played nice with the dogs and loved getting attention he's still a pup.
  • My AA is an absolute cuddle buddy. She is 90lbs of muscle/fat and there is rarely any dog bigger than her, but if she ever comes face to face with a bigger dog, Ninja will give warning snaps. Thats the only time she ever shows her teeth.
  • I've met a couple American Akitas. Most of them have been Pinto or the tannish/brown and white with black masks. I did see one super cool looking Akita mix who goes to the dog park. She is... I guess brown sesame? She is liver but her fur looks exactly like a Shikoku's, just no black. She's about the same size as one too, looks exactly like an Akita though, just much much smaller.
  • I met an Akita once, but sadly I hardly remember anything about it except that I saw it and thought "Akita! Awesome!" and when I asked the owner about it, she confirmed that it was an Akita and that I could pet him. I remember he was very dark colored. And I have met an Akita mix once, during my senior year in high school. I volunteered at the local shelter and there was a female Akita mix that I loved. Had I been able to adopt a dog at the time I would have taken her home with me, but alas. She was there for a few weeks (I only volunteered on Saturdays) and then she was gone, so I like to assume she was adopted. And again, I hardly remember what she looked like, except that she was long-legged, narrow (she wasn't very thick-boned), and she had the most adorable face and a lot of her coloring was brown....and she was a blast to play with in the exercise yard (her personality was awesome).
