She is doing well. She should have power restored by now and the flooding is better. I will give her a shout to update the forum when she gets a chance (which may be a while, because she does not have internet at home and I think trying to update on her mobile phone is kind of tedious).
I apologize for not checking in! Thanks for thinking of me!
We live high up on a mountain, right above a river, but many many feet up the cliff- so only a flood of Noah proportions would flood our actual home out. We were out of power for 5 days, but happily the Hydro power guys from Ontario got the trees offour lines and powered us up again. The roads around here were really chewed up, since the onlyplace one can build a road in steep land is next to the rivers. Lots of bridges broken or just *gone*.
It is quite strange to be IN the place where the disaster is. I see trucks from Red cross passing out water and at work (despite Ludlow flooding badly, I was able to wangle my way to work at Okemo Mountain) we made signs for the Town to direct people to safe water, etc. In some neighboring towns, all their bridges were impassable, and they are just now getting non-helicopter access. My daughter's school will finally open Wednesday- that's a week and a day late. They will make up the days in June I guess. The school itself is ok, but it serves 4 towns, one of which still was not repaired enough to safely get the kids around.
I dont think the dogs noticed much different, since they dont need to shower or flush the toilet. They did have to eat all their raw patties up in successive meals though "yay!" ( I usually space them out) because the fridge/freezer wasnt keeping cold anymore.
Its been raining all day today, rain and thunder all last night, too- I only hope the work and repairs that have been done are holding up on the roads.
I'll say that it does feel really helpless to nothave power, to not be able to get around easily, and to find the grocery store is not well stocked. ITs also sad to see the people who have been flooded putting all their stuff outside to dry, to see that dad and his son sitting on the far side of the Black River looking at where the bridge used to be. But its also heartening to see the trucks from other states and provinces here to help, to see how much has been fixed and cleaned, people who wave Thanks! and Yer Welcome! to the flagmen. Trucks full of gravel that someone wrote inthe dust on the tailgate "VT STRONG!" We'll get it all back together.
We still have all of our leaves on our trees, and apples too. I hope people dont think our state is too broken to visit.
And yes, we have been out at the fire ring, looking over the river below and enjoying the stars, the smell of the balsams, good beer, great dogs, and good talk. Planning Sage's Solid Fence- which we will have to build ourselves (anyone good with a post hole digger, chop saw, come on up) and hope to before the ground freezes. Despite a bad week, I have often been cheered watching my three dogs play together.
Unfortunately, Reilly (my Big Dog) is having a few tumors removed this Friday-one is just a lipoma, one is a mast cell tumor and one is undetermined. The mast cell tumor is small, so I feel good that were catching it early and its likely just a remove-to-cure thing, but I wont feel totally okay till that's been offically graded, and we get an ID on the Mystery Lump. So, think happy thoughts for her on Friday.
Kai puppy Juno (Haru's puppy #1, february litter) is fantastic- such a happy, cooperative girl! She's my shadow and an optimist. She is a canine Roo. She's been socializing well and training well and is an excellent hiking companion, and perfect for Rei and Sage too! Reacto-boy Sage (a bit of an Eeyore and a Tigger) has improved a LOT since I have been able to post in detail- he is off his behavior meds, and has reset a lot of his responses very favorably! I'll post more about him when I have more time- I think its super interesting, and I continue to learn so much around him! In the spirit of "we get the dogs we need" I think I was fated Sage to get me to learn some difficult but important things, and Juno to reinforce my confidence again, which makes applying my Sage-learning more effective and satisfying.
I still dont have internet at home, and my iBook is old and cranky, my wifi spots few. In general I only have time to be online briefly. When internet comes home to where my younger computers are (last I heard was 'end of summer' but with the floods, I bet our internet is pushed back), I'll be back on with details of Sage's improvement, Juno pictures, and whatever happens with Reilly's cancer. thanks for thinking of me, everybody!
Good luck with Reilly I was so worried with Bella, but she made it through and I'm glad we had it removed while it was small.. I'm sure Reilly will do good.
Bella took the surgery well coarse keeping her calm till the stitches healed up was bit hard, but we did it.
After Katrina hit, my house was without power for a week. Imagine no AC in Louisiana heat and high humidity! OMG! AC came on the day we packed up to move to Indiana.. lol
I'm so glad Sage is doing good it's great to see improvements and I think your right about we get the dogs we need.

Oh, thank you! My sister is in Montpelier and was fine, but my foster son in Waterbury was deluged. I am so relieved that Chrystal is okay!
I hope that everyone stays safe.

I'm glad Juno has been a wonderful dog for you.
I'm glad to hear you weathered the storm reasonably well. Thanks for checking in!
