Rakka and Sosuke met some coyotes
I took the pups down to the dog run in the coulees this afternoon. I make a point of only taking them in broad daylight... usually. I keep forgetting that the sun sets at 5:00 now. I got down there at 4:30 and it got dark really quickly after that.
It's a really cold day, which usually means no one's down there, and today was no exception. The parking lot was empty and I didn't see anyone. Imagine my surprise when halfway through our walk, two dogs came up and greeted Rakka and Sosuke. And imagine my surprise when I realized that they were coyotes! Rakka walked up to them calmly, and they sniffed at each other a bit. Sosuke's hackles went up and he hung back, huffing a bit and looked at them suspiciously. Then I decided we'd better head back. Rakka and Sosuke came right back to me when I called. The coyotes hung around a bit and then went on their way.
It didn't last too long, but man that was weird. It wasn't much different than meeting another dog out in the coulees. They were about the same size as Rakka (35 lb).
Oh, and I did take pictures, but it was dark, so all you can see is the grass right in front of me lit up by the flash, and then blackness.

When I lived in Michigan, one of my friends saw a fox come and play with her dog several times. The fox came in the yard and they played chase and things, and then the fox would go away.
Coyote to Raka "You're a strange looking Coyote, and your strange striped friend over there is really weird look'n!" )

@shibamistress--did your friend have a shiba???
Your story actually scared me some. I am so glad it ended well.
A little off topic from Coyotes, but last week when I had left work (everyone was gone so I was the last to leave) so I left through the backdoor at of the warehouse with my backpack on with my laptop inside, my coffee mug from the morning and both leashes with the pups attached.
I usually take a bit to look out into the field right next to our building because there was a coyote sighting back in the summer when the weeds were about 3-4ft high but the city came and mowed it all down. This time I forgot to take a glimpse and when I shut the door I saw two dogs 60 - 70lbs range rushing towards me and the pups. Both offleash walking the big open field with it's owner in the middle not even realizing where his dogs were. I had to shout out to him to call his dogs back. Usually there aren't many dogs around here, even though we are a business complex we are pretty close to the streets as well so would be a bad idea to walk your dogs offleash in this area. Was a bit scary and anything could have happened since it was dogs I have never seen before and given my past history with my first shiba pup I was a bit shook up from the whole thing. Nothing happened though, the dogs went back to their owner after he yelled at them to come back to them. But definitely scary when the dogs came running at us.
Just out of town on our acreage near Kelowna many years ago, our family's Shiba (Shima) was lured out by one coyote towards a pack of 'em further off. We called her and got her to come back, but it certainly was a scary moment! Coyotes are crafty critters
