a modern day Hachiko

some of you have probably seen this, but I thought I'd post it. Looks like a contemporary Hachiko here, as this dog will not leave his person's grave:

Sad. And of course I was interested in the dog's breed too...it's a mix probably, but has some NK type features!

  • Wow.... Dogs always amaze me. thanks for sharing
  • Thanks for sharing this. I hadn't seen this yet...that's very touching.
  • These stories really prove to me, that dogs are in some ways much better than us humans! :) Loyalty matched by no one! Amazing.

On a sidenote, I've been to see Greyfriar's Bobby's statue and the grave he guarded for 14 years.

    The grave of Bobby himself:

    The text reads: "Greyfriar's Bobby
    Died 14th January 1872
    Aged 16 years

Let his love and devotion be a lesson to us all".
    Indeed :)

More here about the poor boy...Nice that the villagers are bringing him food.
  • Stories like this always brings a tear to my eye.
  • Great story! I laughed at one of the comments though. "You never hear this kind of shit about cats". Thanks for sharing that.
  • That is because cats know after a certain amount of time has passed...their human probably isn't coming back. So they decide to move on with their lives. =p

Cute dog! It is very sad, the dog doesn't have any other human nor a place to go. He is lost without his master. That's great the villagers are feeding and visiting him. Otherwise he would die from starvation and loneliness. =T
  • If a dog feels that level of devotion toward you, you have certainly lived a fruitful life. It's equally sad and inspiring. Most humans will never feel that kind of loyalty for anything. It really breaks me up.

@haxan, that's very well put! I'm sure we all have our many reasons as to why we have dogs. For me, I really like that I can always count on my dogs to be there no matter what. I think that's what draws most humans to dogs is their reliability. Sure, my dogs may have failed me in trials (lol) but they've never failed me in life. They make me look at life with new perspective.
