The banner design is one of my projects for the next 4 days- if you like, you can use the 6 NK I am drawing for that on the bookmarks as well. I kinda think photos might be a better choice for takeaways, if people have them (bookmarks/cards/etc) and show them around to others, it adds realism, you know. But either way- whatever you decide!
Dear all, would you guys prefer bookmarks or 6x4 postcards to hand out? I was thinking about do a NASC/shikoku one (or if you prefer them to be separate, please let me know) and a Kishu one. For the Kai one, @brada1878 i am sorry I am not trying to put you on the spot or anything but are you make kai ones or ones specific for your kennel? If you are making kennel specific ones, then we could do kai ones as well.
Also, i am not sure if we are are nihon ken (minus shiba and akita) specific booth or a shikoku, kai, kishu booth. Will we present data on nihon ken in general i mean. Also, I haven't been long around long enough, so excuse my ignorance but will we be promoting NASC as well?
The previous years we have only done the Shikoku booth, last year we had Kyuubi there as a pup so people could see what a Kai was.
The akita and shiba all have their own booths. We are mainly there to educate about the different NK breeds. Corina has had a posterboard there with pictures of the different breeds.
As for promoting the NASC that is up to you all because we only really had Corina and last year Jesse who had their shikokus, and we didn't have the NASC then to promote. We did however tell people about the forum so that they could come learn more if they wished.
We could have gone the route and made a banner for the Shikoku, Kai and Kishu separately, but we are all helping each other with the booths since we had them all placed right next to each other and decided a "Nihon Ken" banner would be more appropriate with the website on it as well.
A lot of stuff this year for us is new as it just used to be a one man show with Corina with some of us as volunteers to help give her a break.
We should promote the NASC. Doesn't hurt to mention it. I plan on wearing my NASC shirt (and bringing along my SCSC shirt for when I man that booth from 3-5 on Saturday).
@ttddinh - I was planning to make cards for our kennel with a write-up about the Kai Ken on the back. I was not making these specifically for the expo. I was making them to have when people ask me about our dogs when we are out with them (anywhere).
But, since the expo is coming up, I was going to get them done before hand... I didn't plan to set them out on the table, I was just going to have them, and then give them out if people asked me specifically about our kennel. I'm not really interested in openly promoting our kennel, I just wanted info in case someone asked specifically about it.
So, in short, yes, we will need a Kai-specific bookmarks too.
Anyone who asks about Shiba or Akita we will direct to that breed's respective booth(s)... but we will have info on all the breeds in the form of the PADS article since the NKF covers all the breeds.
@ttddinh - Maybe we don't make bookmarks or index cards for the Shiba and Akita - maybe just the 4 medium-sized breeds?
--
@CrimsonO2, @Calia, & @ttddinh - I think it's a great idea to promote the NASC at the booth. Perhaps someone should bring that up to the club (email list) and try to get something printed/made to give out to interested Shikoku enthusiasts?
Thanks for the reminder. I'm working on some edits with Theresa for the bookmarks today.
Also just attended the SCSC meeting yesterday and they are more than happy to have a few of the Kishu, Kai, Shikoku be in their booth too so that there is interplay between the breeds to direct people from one to the other.
I'm going to try and do a quick turn to incorporate a Shiba bookmark that advertises the SCSC logo AND the ShibaInu forum as other collateral for the group.
My work schedule has not be written yet however my scheduling supervisor told me that my requested shifts and day off should not be a problem.
So my schedule is as follows:
Booth Set-Up: Thursday (19th) after 1pm until 8pm.
Variable Booth Hours: Friday from open (a.m.) until about 3:30pm (early p.m.). As I have to be at work at 6pm that night. Saturday I will arrive at Fairgrounds between 1pm-2pm and will stay all day. Sunday I have off from work. So I will be there from open to close and will break down booths/move out after close Sunday night.
Since, we do seem to have enough booth volunteers for this year's Expo (yay!)...I may need to bounce around between the Nihon Ken booths and wander over to the Belgian Malinois Booth (they need help this year; short on volunteer staff).
--------------
So...shall we do a pot luck for snacks and lunch then at the booths? We should have stuff to drink as well. We should make it official as to who will be bringing what and on which days. I may need to filter back to the first page, I think we mentioned some stuff already, lol.
@Shikokuspirit What time do you need people there each day? I'm available all day Friday and Saturday. It doesn't open until 10 right? So what time do you need us there in the morning?
Are there any rural areas or parks in that area to run around and get some exercise? I need to google.
You'll want to get to the fairgrounds earlier (prior to open) for a good parking space (by 8am). I plan to be there at least by 9am on Friday but will probably try to get there around 7am-8am for any last minute set-ups (if not finished on Thursday). I think Brad and I will have Friday morning covered if you wish to get to the Expo later. If you could be there on Saturday by 9:30am that would be great! As I will not get off work until 12pm. @tjbart17

They have a fenced in dog park and lots of space to run (but on leash outside dog park). However there will be a Mondio Ring Trial that exact weekend so I'm not sure exactly how much space will be available to public: So Cal Mondio
Well, I hate to do this again, but I don't think Jen or I will be able to make it to the expo this year. We just don't have the money. I lost my main contract position the week of Christmas, then my other 2 positions dried up shortly after that. I have since had a hard time getting any steady work... So, I just don't know if we can afford to pay the gas and such to make it to the expo. I will keep everyone updated, maybe things will turn around... I dunno.
@tjbart17 - Thanks! Well, if we can get the gas money together then Jen and Chase will probably be the ones that go (Jen wanted to go). She wasn't going to go since Kumi was gonna have her pups around that time... But it looks like Kumi will have them late next week.
So Jen and Chase will prob. be the ones that would go if we can figure out how to pay for the gas.
Anyway, so, yea, we may take you up on that offer. Thanks!

( @ttddinh @*JackBurton* @CrimsonO2 and others) - To add to what @jujee wrote, @ShikokuSpirit, @jujee, and I spoke to @WrylyBrindle regarding the banner and asked that it cover all 6 NK breeds. It will be promoting www.nihonken.org.

@timkim I hope you can make it on Sunday as well.
I will be out of town from 4/5 - 4/10 but can still fwd items to him from my phone. Let's try to get things in by 4/13 so that it isn't being rushed.
The banner only took a day, but I don't know if everything will be that quick.
