  • Interesting! My "morning" routine actually takes place around 5PM since I am nocturnal and go to bed right around now. Sometimes I feed the dogs before I go to bed, but I usually do it right after I get up in the evening.
  • Doggie Chess!

  • Yeah I just get up and go on a run with Koda. I guess that the blessing with having only one dog. Life is pretty simple around the house.
  • I pee first.
  • Lol @jellyfart, same here! Things take much longer with three than one that's for sure.
  • I second @tjbart17! Unfortunately, the morning routine is somewhat variable for Argos, the consequence of attending university. :S It either goes one of two ways: get up, let Arg out, drink coffee, get Arg's food at 9, work while he naps, go to university (if so, walk before)/stay home if no classes (if so, walk around noon); or, get up, let Arg out, crate him, go to uni for a few hours, come home, let out, feed, walk. I feel bad for the second option, but that usually only happens 2 days a week. Fortunately, Arg has adjusted to the morning routine very well and tends to nap/chill until noon no matter what I do (thank God for growing pups).

I have a similar dog chess....Mine is like this:

First my husband gets up and lets Bel (Shiba) out of the giant wire crate to pee. Often she goes out on the leash as she is known not to come back in in the mornings. Then Toby (shiba) goes out (he sleeps downstairs in the living room). Oskar (Akita) is upstairs. When I get up, I give meds to the Shibas, then put Toby in his room (his room is the sunroom). Oskar comes downstairs and goes out with Bel and Toby comes back into the house.

Then Toby goes back into his room and the other two come in, and Toby goes out. Much of the day is spent juggling who is in and who is out! And no human ever opens a door to the outside with out doing a dog check: who is where? Even with all our careful manueverings, we've had a couple of slip ups a year, where Bel got out with Toby, but thankfully we've been able to intervene and keep everyone safe.

the sad thing is that Toby is so cautious--he always checks too before going out a door--he won't come in or go out unless he can see where the other dogs are. Poor boy. But of course, he has a reason to be cautious, as we all do.

After reading everyones post, it is rather daunting to get another pup. I am already planning out my options for Toki's second playmate (he is still waaaay to young to get a second pup at the moment), and it is a lot to consider that I might very well have to play dog chess. Though, I'd get a female, so two might not be as big as an issue as three....but still. I'm glad this post was made :)

If anyone has TWO dogs, they should give their daily routine! That'd be super helpful!

My routine with the Tokalton on a day I am home:
    Wake up
    Pee myself
Pee Toki....he also poops at building 7....a few buildings away from ours.....
    We walk by the ducks
Fail to chase, kill, eat said ducks
Pee on specific extra bushy clump of discreet grass
    Bark at leaf blower men
    Breakfast.
Bark at children giggling, playing volleyball
Toki Sleep (I do computer business work, ie: edit photos all day)
Pee Toki when he asks to go out
    Bedtime.
  • Not sure why he is "too young" for another dog? I am generally of the opinion that the younger the introductions the better.

I could totally see that, they are more pliable to other dogs. Though, I always figured it would be best to wait until he is a year old cause he would be old enough to give corrections for misbehavior but young enough to still be playful...plus more reliability so I can focus on training a new pup. But I'm about to move in a few months, so when he is a year old, it just happens to be the best time for me anyway :)
  • We're starting to integrate Mosura with our pack, Gojira is no longer in heat, and I got a noise complaint from a neighbor today, so the routine has changed:

    Wake up.

One at a time, get each dog out of its crate/room and put a muzzle on.

Turn on all of the lights in my office.

    Turn on the computer.

Go to the bathroom to pee.

Let all of the dogs into the backyard to potty.

Prepare four tall scoops of dryfood.

    Put on shoes.

Bring all of the dogs back inside.

Put Gojira outside, take the muzzle off, and give her breakfast.

    Brush my teeth and hair.

Bring Gojira inside with the muzzle back on.

Put Ghidora outside, take the muzzle off, and give him breakfast.

    Change my clothes.

Bring Ghidora inside with the muzzle back on.

Put Mosura outside, take the muzzle off, and give her breakfast.

Log in to my work applications.

Bring Mosura inside with the muzzle back on.

Put Gryphon outside, take the muzzle off, and give her breakfast.

Catch up on my email and tickets to work on for the day.

Bring Gryphon inside with the muzzle back on.

Sit down at my computer to work.

  • Today was the first day trying it and I failed in its execution - I forgot to take the muzzle off Ghidora so he could eat breakfast. Let me tell you, he was not happy! Poor boy.

What was making the dogs noisy? It is just a morning thing? It would stink to not be able to use the outdoor kennels at all.

My morning routine is complicated by dogs who don't understand the concept of "No Playing" and "Come in" at 5 AM. Digging out gophers is much more important to them at that hour.

5 AM- Groggily get up and move PoongSoon (1 yr old f Poongsan) from my bedroom to the 2nd bedroom. Close bedroom door.

Let Gracie (13 wk old f Jindo) out of her crate in the living room and let her loose in the backyard.

Retrieve PoongSoon, put a leash on her, and let her go pee in the front yard.

Bring PoongSoon inside and put her into the 2nd bedroom.

Let Gracie back inside and put her back into her crate.

Let Marley (8 mo. m Poongsan) out of his crate in the kitchen, put a leash on him, and walk him in the backyard to go pee.

Put Marley into one of the outdoor kennels.

Slowly put on a leash on Korbein (8 mo. m Poongsan), let him out of the x-pen in my bedroom, and give him a chance to go pee in the backyard. (He rarely does due to fear.)

Put Korbein into the outdoor kennel next to Marley.

Let BokDol (1.5 yr old m Poongsan) out of his wire crate in the living room, put a leash on him, and let him pee in the front yard.

Bring BokDol back inside and put him back into the wire crate.

Let PoongSoon loose in the house.

Feed the baby chicks and give them fresh water.

    Get ready for work.

6 AM - Leave for work.

Lucky for me, my dad lets Gracie, BokDol, and PoongSoon out at a more decent hour after I leave. He feeds and confines all the dogs.

  • I don't think I could fit my routine in one post. lol
  • Sounds like your routine is similar to mine was.

As for the noise... There are three factors.

#1. Mosura howls, yips, yelps, and cries in her crate or in her run. She can keep it up for two hours and sounds like a hyena. Aaron put her outside at 6am this morning before he went to work because she was being annoying in the house. I'm sure that was the "last straw" for the neighbors. There were similar incidences over the weekend, when we went out late until 1am both Friday and Saturday night and it was her first time in the run. Sunday night the dogs stayed in the run because with the rain, they were too muddy to allow in the house; but they were not noisy.

#2. Last summer from the end of June until the beginning of August, I had ShaSha in my foster care. He would also carry on, but he sounded much more like he was wounded, starving, or mistreated. We had a neighbor standing in our front yard worried if he was okay one night when we came home. The neighbor who complained this morning said that they have audio recordings from months ago, and that it was not barking or a puppy but a pained kind of sound, and that it sounded like a big dog. I think they recorded ShaSha.

#3. Lastly, Gryphon likes to start up a barking chorus in the middle of the day. During recess and lunch she starts barking at the kids who come over to our fence to tease her. Once Gryphon gets going, Gojira has to join in. Even after Gryphon stops, Gojira will keep going. I can go out and tell Gryphon to knock it off and she will, but Goji wont listen and must have the last word. Gryphon has normal deep barks, but when Gojira gets worked up into a frenzy she sounds like a strangled coyote. She might also be what the neighbors heard as being "pained" but she doesn't sound like a big dog...

Anyway, they will now be inside with me all day with muzzles on. I don't know what we will do when we have to go out somewhere. I guess for the time being, we wont stay out past dark anywhere, so the neighbors wont be losing sleep at the least.
  • I know some people here are not fond of adversives, but I would give the citronella collar a try for Mosura.

It's not easy fostering, is it? I'm trying to separate the bonded brothers, and one barks and the other gives mournful howls in protest. The Jindo puppy also likes to "protect" the yard from the neighbor's labrador.

The kids pestering the dogs sounds like an issue that's only going to get worse. Can you throw up another barrier? Bamboo fence or something that blocks their view? Or are the dogs reacting to the kid's voices as well?

We have a 6' chain link fence (its 8' on the school side, as there is a 2' drop in ground level between our yard and the playground) with a cedar plank fence in front of it. For the most part, except one corner of the yard where two planks have come loose and not been fixed yet, the kids and dogs cannot see each other. But they come up alongside the fence and talk about how there are "wolves and dead guys" in our yard (we have plastic anatomy skeletons hanging from our large tree, lol). Then they try to encourage the dogs to make noise by howling at them. Also, next to the dog runs, a large vine plant has pulled the cedar fence away from the chain link, causing it to lean inwards and have a little visibility if you put your eye right up to it.
  • The dogs have graduated to being muzzle-free and all four are allowed together with supervision. (They're crated separately when we leave the house or go to bed and always will be.) I let them all out to potty this morning and forgot about them for ten minutes longer than usual. I went to go bring them in before an altercation might happen and I saw Ghidora running around with a toy in his mouth and the other three chasing him with Mosura in the lead. Such a nice change from Ghidora wanting to attack her at any opportunity and Mosura running scared from all the dogs!
  • Wow, I feel pretty lucky. When we brought Kitora home we had her stay in the crate at night, because she is a pup etc.... Well, a couple of weeks of that and she was done with being crated at night and she let me know it!! My take on it: she saw Mirra and Saydee sleeping in the room/bed with me and she wanted to be a part of the pack whole heartedly. I think it's really true that Kai's learn by watching, for sure. First night I let her stay out of the crate I slept very light as I was worried what might be destroyed while I was asleep, but she slept on the bed with me with the other girls and right on time she asked to go out and pee at 6am with the "big" girls.

So, here is my routine with 3 dogs:
    Wake at 6am
    Let dogs out to pee
    Pee myself
    Get dressed/etc
    Feed dogs
    Let dogs in to eat
    Wake daughter
Get her dressed - feed her
Get stuff together for outside chores (we have goats that I milk, ducks for eggs and horses that eat, lol)
Put dogs back out in yard
    Chores
Feed myself if I remember before lunch, haha
Let dogs in/out as needed through out day/get work done etc.
Kitora still stays in crate if we are all gone from the house and she can't go with.
If I can I take Mirra and Ki with to run errands and Saydee sleeps with Jason (he works graveyards)
A walk at some point in afternoon to "herd" check and roam the property w/ Kitora on long leash, Mirra is trained to "stay close" so is an excellent example for Ki

I know once we get our male Kai that things will have to change up some when Ki is in heat, but for now we have a pretty well oiled pack unit. I feel very lucky that things have integrated so well for us.
I'll have to post again once the male is here and once Ki starts going into heat :o)

  • My routine with my boys on a day off:

7am - Russell thinks I might have died in the middle of the night and makes sure to wake me
7:15(ish) - breakfast for the boys: London eats outdoors and Russell eats indoors
7:45-8 - Russell joins London outside to get their morning business out of the way
-----> (I have an indoor patio attached to a large, fenced in yard so the dogs can go in and out as they please.)
8-9 - Crispy gets ready for the day
9-9:15 - Engage morning walk for coffee!
10 - arrive home; chill; do ugly housework that's been neglected from the work week; the boys nap
11/12ish - Adventure Time! Take the boys out for a "random adventure" - I alternate "adventure" destinations to keep things fresh and go off-the-beaten-path or places not many people frequent. A common destination are old mill complexes, unfinished portions of the bike path and lesser-known/frequented parks.

The rest of the day is spent doing chores and giving the boys their individual activities. London's is usually his appointment or his walk in the city and Russell's is his dog park visit.

If I'm working in the morning, it's awake at 4:30am, out by 5am, at work by 6, breakfast at 7 and play until 2pm (and an afternoon of Crispy doing silly "adult things" without the super-tired puppies). If I'm working the afternoon, the boys and I will do our usual routine until we get home from our morning coffee walk and then it's work for me and play for them from 12 until 8.
  • Somehow I've been able to get myself into a somewhat "normal" routine... Dunno how long it will last.

Get up somewhere from 9AM to Noon.
    Greet dogs.
    Go to the bathroom.
    Play with dogs.
    Prepare food for dogs.
Yell at Conker for biting Juneau.
    Feed Juneau and Sasha.
    Feed Conker in my room.
    Eat breakfast.
Go outside and clean up the yard.

Aaand, that's about it. Nothing special here.
