Need links and resources...

edited April 2012 in General
I am finally fleshing out all the "stub" pages on my site. Today I am working on the Resources section. I have outlined the following categories:

• Dog Clubs
• Akita Resources
• Legislation
• Health
• Diet
• Training
• Breeding
• Shows
• Supplies
• Rescue

I would love your input and suggestions as to links I should add. They should have relevance for prospective Japanese Akita owners primarily in the US. I am also open to suggestions for additional categories to add. You can see the links I have already included here: http://www.kaijukennels.com/resources/

    Make Clubs to reflect "Clubs/Meetups"

Here is most recent listing of Akita Meetups in US. It also shows number of folks by various cities who are waiting for formation of a meetup:

I suspect that most of the folks in the meetup community have AAs, but it would probably be a good idea to list meetups as a resource anyway. (FYI, our Shiba meetup was started -in part- to provide support to Shiba rescue efforts in Northern CA/NV. )
  • http://www.dogstardaily.com/ is a great source for training.

Oh man, the first article I saw on that page says not to hug your dog cause dogs don't hug each other. It goes on to say to have no physical contact at all.

Here is our link page, feel free to poach any of them (tho they are a bit outdated)...

www.dogstardaily.com is owned and operated by Ian Dunbar and family... It's a must have IMHO.

  • I don't understand why there's no public pedigree database for JAs like Akita Headquarters, which is mostly AAs but has some JAs.
  • I found this site quite useful in searching for pedigrees...

    http://www.akitapedigree.com/
  • The JACA one is better maintained/verified, but has a smaller number of dogs. Pick your poison I guess. :)
  • Oh, thanks! I forgot about Akita Pedigree. It must be hard with the different names, translations, etc, for JAs.
  • While Akitapedigree contains over 5000 entries, it is not nearly as accurate as AkitaHQ. When we started the JACA database... pedigrees.Akita-inu.com the goal was to empahsize quality over quantity. So every entry that has a green check mark contains a paper pedigree behind it.

The other nice feature that Claire built into it was the ability to link to OFFA.org.

The basic database is open to the public but the ability to see health checks, scanned pedigrees, and breeding records are restricted to members.
  • Oh, nice! I thought the red and green Akita head drawings might be for photos but not. Will you add photos at some point?
  • Some of the entries have photos and some do not. As photos are found, I try to check if I have any copywrite issues.

For example Tim's dog has photo, pedigree on file. It's nice because the data is more reliable.
