Best De-Shedding tool

edited March 2008 in General

So FurFace is starting to shed. A LOT and I was wondering what would be the best type of brush or  pretty much anything that you all use that works.  I heard that the Fur-minator brush works really well but any other suggestions?

I use the furminator and the zoom groom.  Don't use the furminator too much it can be rough on the skin.

I have a deshedding tool made by Bamboo that is essentially a furminator knock-off.  It costed $9.  There's another one that has a handle, so it's more like a furminator.  As far as I can tell, they're the exact same thing (I've seen both of them up close).  It works really well.  Another thing that works really well but isn't so rough on the coat is just a simple undercoat rake.  I bought one at the same time that I bought my deshedding tool and found that it worked almost as well, but was easier to use and more gentle.  With deshedding blades, there's a risk of damaging the overcoat or irritating the skin if you use it too much.  I think undercoat rakes are less likely to do this.

Hands down Furminator, you can make a breed of a new dog for how much fur you take out.

Be careful on some of the animals that dont have an undercoat, I gave a cat that we had a bald spot by brushing too much in one area. Don't blame me the stupid cat kept rubbing for it, and I didnt realize how thin the spot was getting. I think she was a little retarted in the first place...Undecided

Can we give Niko a point for Chad brushing the cat bald?  All that was left was skin and a few hairs!!

You guys are going to laugh, but I use a teflon coated greyhound comb and a flea comb.
