Kuma turns 6 today

At the UKC show today they had weight pull going on. I ventured over there with a friend and we decided to give it a try. The weight pull harness kinda freaked Kuma out so we were not successful. He tried to pull a little but stopped once there was pressure on the harness. Everyone was cheering him on and wanted to see a shiba pull. He was such a hit they gave me a weight pull harness they do not use anymore that is the right size for Kuma. We are going to start practicing and see if he continues to enjoy it. May have a weight pulling shiba in the works here. I think with a little practice he will really take off with it. He already pulls like a fool when you put him in a regular harness and take him biking. He just needs to get use to a bigger harness that covers more of his body.

Hope Kuma does better with some work.

I believe Beth's Testsu did some weight pull once or something. I remember seeing pictures or maybe video? I forgot.

Lol, that's cool that you are going to try weight pulling, it's really fun to see how much they can pull. I tried it with my guys at an event, but the club who hosted is really far and seemed to like to stick to bully breeds. I use Tetsu now at home to pull my gardening cart around while I do yard work and he loves it.

These club members were super excited to have dogs other than your typical bully breeds looking to pull. They were all going on and on about Kumas build and they think he will be a a good weight pull dog. They gave me a harness that fits him (it did not fit right on any of the bully breeds), They have multiple events each year and are super nice. It is a 2 hour drive to get there for me, but if I am going to be there showing, might as well do the weight pull as well. He pulled without problem when I came and took hold of the harness. Once he gets use to it, I can see him pulling like crazy. May eventually try it with Tora as well. She might enjoy it more than showing.

Kuma has been practicing and getting use to his weight pull harness. He is to the point where he starts wagging his tail when I get the harness out. He loves getting the praise and all the special treats.

Does the bar hit his hocks when jut in the harness without a cart to pull? I would think that would be distracting.

Yes, once it is hooked up then it does not hit him on the hocks.

Kuma did an AKC show today. He really loves what he does. Not many Shibas willing jump into a tub to get a bath and then race to the grooming table to be groomed.

Here is a pic of him after we got home today. Showed his heart out and is sacked out sound asleep now.
