Ryukyu Island Dog

Was at this small cafe in Kamakura yesterday when a dog came walking out of the kitchen. The staff said it was a Ryukyu island dog from Okinawa.

She definitley had longer legs than most Kai's I have seen, so I would say just a tad taller than your average Kai? Was a very mellow dog but I guess that's what you get from hanging out in a kitchen of an organic restaurant specializing in hemp products! Her name was Shanti as in Ohm Shanti Ohm.

Jeff, I'm building a beach house in Kamakura right now, and yesterday this dog came bounding up to me on the beach. It's a small world.

Shigeru, I am sure you will get to the cafe as well. Right across from the beach, friendly staff and cold beer! Sure is a small world.

Interesting dog. I wonder if the white on the face is due to age or if in general it has that type of masking? Pretty cool....

That looks like some of it is from age, but it may also sport Urajiro.
