Guess Who's Coming to Dinner *LONG post*
What a night!!! We had an awesome time with Lucy and Dave and are looking forward to their next visit!!
Originally, MY plan was to take Keigo. Mika is too aggressive and I didn't want the evening to be focused on her bad behavior. We sat in the car in front of our house and listened to Mika whine, cry and howl for 10 minutes. Super Separation Anxiety Girl has struck again.
The choice then was to take both dogs, or leave both dogs. I consulted with Dave and decided to take Mika. She was super good in the car. The thought of being left alone frightened her so much that when Kurt entered the house, she ran to her collar box and sat like the good little girl I've always wanted. LOL
When we arrived, Lucy gave a us a welcome WAVE!!! I was so excited and honored to receive such a warm greeting! More Lucy waves came throughout the night, treat or no treat. My favorite wave came when Dave was 'trotting' with Keigo. I believe Lucy calls it her 'Heeay, Hoooah' wave.
The introductory walk with Keigo was very successful!! They snuck sniffs, walked close by - it was very cute and Keigo was fairly respectful.
Mika. Well, Mika was Mika. I had high hopes for it going well. Since she was so well-behaved in the car. Once she saw Lucy, Mika made a fuss, and charged towards Lucy to get her sniff, but Lucy - being ever elusive - dodged her like a bullet. I don't know how it happened, but Lucy and Mika got tangled up. Not bites, Kurt had Mika under control (whew), but I HAVE to say LUCY can fend for herself!!
From Lucy erupted a terrible, howl/scream/hiss/bark guttural sound that so alarmed Keigo, he tried to keep away from her from that point on!!! His first instinct was to try and drag me across the street. Eventually, he calmed a bit, but he definitely was tentative about approaching her.
In the house all was OK. Mika still tried to get to Lucy, but we kept her on leash. Keigo was loose, but steered clear of Lucy!! At one point, I was sitting on the floor with Lucy. Keigo, who LOVES when Mommy sits on the floor was so desperately wanting to approach me, but didn't until Lucy walked away. LOL.
Dinner was amazing! Dave cooked Cornish Hen with Garlic Aioli Sauce, Steamed Asparagus and Mushrooms in a Red Wine Au Jous. YUMMMMMMMMYYY. Yes, I forgot it was Good Friday, hehe. Well, I didn't have dessert, which is my favorite part of the meal! So that should count, right, that counts, RIGHT?? oops. *hanging head down low* What is Easter so darn early anyway!
I have more to say, but I'm tired now - 3 hours sleep, proceeded by about 3 hours of walking dogs. Ask Dave about the Super Pooper on the second walk.

Did all that really happen? Sounds like a made up story. I'm jealous! lol!
Sounds like you guys had a great time, I wish we could all meet up and eat food that Dave cooks. :c)
Sounds like Lucy showed off her "Shibatude"... Shiba are so full of fire.
It's great you guys met and had a great time! I have to admit I'm a bit jealous. Not only cause you get to meet, but because your dogs got to be with other Japanese dogs, owned by people who share your view on having a dog, and that have well adjusted dogs.
Now, when is any of you coming to Portugal?
We should all meet up, Brad! That would be so much fun. Unfortunately, it would mean some dogs wouldn't be able to attend.
I cook too, Romi! I made sweet potatoes with honey and cinnamon. Yum.
Hmmm. No plans to go to Portugal in the near future, but maybe....My parent's went to Portugal in 2001. It looked beautiful! We do have tentative plans to go to Greece, though. In September. We'll see.
OH! +Barbara! Although, Im not too fond of sweet potatoes. What else you got??
Rui, don't you mean...when are you and Phoenix coming to the states???
So I think I see a plan forming here... I get my Tipi setup and then we can all meet in Taos for a Nihon-ken Festaval! I'll supply the drinks, dogs, Tipi, fire (for cooking) and accomodations you guys supply the food and more dogs! I mean Taos is kinda in between East and the West.
Rui - There is a chance we may be in Poland next month, and later this year we may be in France... tho neither of those places are very close to - they are closer to you than Taos tho.
Ok, time for me to weigh in....
It was a blast! I had a lot of fun with Barbara and her pupps (and Kurt too)! It was actually a blessing in disguise that my parents left the house in unpresentable shape and I had to spend most of the day cleaning. Otherwise, I would have going crazy having to wait another day to get Joey. It was really good for me to have something else to focus on.
The initial meeting with Keigo went great. They both were interested in each other but somewhat cautious. After Mika and Lucy got too close, Lucy decided she didn't like Keigo quite as much (at least until Mika left). Anyway, Lucy's Shiba scream freaked poor Keigo out. He ran the other direction! Then, as Barbara said, later in the evening when Lucy was on the floor with her, poor Keigo didn't know what to do. When Lucy wandered away for a few seconds, Keigo seized the opportunity and went in to say hi to his mom. Lucy didn't like that at all. She charged him and let out a powerful bark. Poor Keigo ran and hid behind Mika with his tail between his legs. Lucy's got some spunk I tell you!
Anyway, we went on two separate walks. The first was right after they arrived and the second was after dinner. In our infinite wisdom, we decided we only needed one bag for our walk. After all, Lucy has never pooped three times in one day. So we're walking through the neighborhood and Mika goes first. She poops a tiny little pellet. No problem, I handed the bag to Barbara and off we went walking again. Much to my surprise, Lucy decided to poop for the third time that day. No problem, Mika only pooped a little pellet, plenty of room in the bag. Off we go on the walk again. This time, we're joking about how great it is that Keigo hasn't pooped because he "poops mountains". I, of course, am giggling heartily about that. Just as we're a block away from home, Keigo picks the one house with the lights on inside to poop on the lawn....and its a MOUNTAIN! This time, we've got a problem. As we're debating what to do about it, a dog in the window starts barking which of course attracts the homeowner. Now we're forced to try to squeeze it in. And who does that task fall on? Yep, that would be me. Its dark and I can't see well, so I do my best job of trying to fit it all in the bag without getting it all over myself. The damn bag is so full I can't close it and I definitely left a good smear on the lawn (I went back and checked this morning). To top it off, the synergy of the smells from three dogs in one bag made me gag at least twice. It was rancid!
Back inside after that and all six of us and pooped. Barbara and her crew left soon after and I passed out on the couch with Lucy in my lap. Lots of fun!
Anyway, here are a few pics:
The Lucy and Mika standoff
Barbara and her pups (doesn't Keigo have such a cute face!)
Everyone is pooped!
And one more of Keigo, just because I absolutely adore him!
