My dog's flight and bad weather
There is a typhoon coming for Tokyo this weekend.
Bijo's flight may be cancelled or delayed. If it was just a person flying, no big deal. But the dog on the reservation complicates it. Its entirely possible that the airline will simply move the reservation to the next day but refuse to allow the dog. Or maybe the later flight is already at the limit for number of animals. We already spoke to JAL, who said they wont know anything until shortly before the flight. The tickets are non-refundable and they wont let us move them to the next day unless the flight is cancelled. Bijo has to travel 240 miles by car to get to the airport the day of her flight. Her current owner has to leave his home before the airline will know if the flight is cancelled. If it is cancelled, the next available flight is a full day later. Bijo either has to go back (11 hours driving round trip), spend the night with my friend Mariko and her daughter Ai, or be kenneled near the airport. If the flight is delayed at all, Bijo's current owner probably will not be able to help Ai with the paperwork and forms for getting the dog on the plane. If its more than a day or two delay, we may lose the safe window for her to travel. Then she has to go back to her current owner until she has puppies or is confirmed not pregnant. Then I may have to wait even longer for the puppies to be old enough to travel with her. A mother and litter of puppies would be extremely expensive to ship.
I'm not stressed; there is literally nothing we can do about it. Either my dog will come or she wont. Its annoying and a bit funny at the same time.

However, the weather forecast for Narita on Saturday still looks good.
http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/Narita+JAXX0118:1:JA
Super Typhoon Jelawat should be gradually losing strength as it roars 20 miles east of Okinawa at 2 a.m. Sunday, but it will still pack a powerful Category 2-equivalent punch, maximum 92-mph sustained winds and 115-mph gusts around 10 p.m. Saturday:
-- Sustained 35-mph winds and greater, 6 a.m. Saturday.
-- Sustained 40-mph winds and greater, 10 a.m. Saturday.
-- Sustained 58-mph winds and greater, 6 p.m. Saturday.
-- Maximum 92-mph sustained winds and 115-mph gusts, 10 p.m. Saturday.
I haven't found anything news about Ewiniar, which last I heard is coming much closer to Narita than Jelewat.
I do like me a good typhoon but I doubt we will get anything but a bit windy and wet Friday.
Today in Narita is cloudy with an observed high of 79F.
