Yesterday was perfect for him. I was just going to hang out. No rushing to rings or showing dogs for anyone else. We just walked around the vendors, sat and watched some if the rings, and hung out at my friends setup. After the first hour, none if the noises bothered him. He even started taking food from people. Always after checking with me first. Someone would go to give him a treat and he would give me this look as if he was asking "is it ok mom?"
Really cool to hear he did so well at the show! I'm so glad he's settling in well!
Scary about the storm door too. Only one of my dogs opens doors (the male Shiba) but he will try it even though if he got out, the other Shiba would kill him. So we had to put latches on all the screen doors so no one can open them accidently.
Really cool that he did well like that at the show! There's a huge long haired malamute x wolfhound at our usual dog park who is the biggest softy ever. He loves Ren too, but I think she just doesn't know what to do when a large bounding wall of hair is galloping up to say hello. I'm glad Ritsu took the dog show in stride after a little bit of adjustment time! Did you show any of your dogs as well?
I did not show anyone. It was an akc show and Kuma is out of coat right now. I think it helped ritsu that I was not showing anything so I was very relaxed.
So Ritsu has been doing great. He gets along with everyone in the pack except Hiro. He is fully established into the routine now and seems to be thriving with it. He his so goofy and gives me a big kai hug every night after we come in from our walk. Tonight was a HUGE break through. Ritsu and Tora were playing while I was fixing their dinner. They had a pretty good wrestle going on. Poor guy has been kept away from the puppies and has had limited contact with the adults as he came down with kennel cough. Not sure where he picked it up because even the dogs he was around at the show did not have it.
Awww good for Ritsu! He sounds like a great boy, I'm sure Tora was happy to have someone to wrestle with after so many weeks of being an uncomfortable blimp lol.
Hiro is only getting along with Kazue. Even then he has days where he has to be seperate from her. This started about the time he hit puberty. We are working through it. He gets his own time with me while everyone else is crated.
I feel bad for Ritsu. Poor guy. I hate when they get kennel cough. Still have no idea where he picked it up at. Hiro has it as well and I think Kazue is starting. I am hoping not everyone comes down with it. Last thing I need is 5 adults all coughing. Ritsu sounds terrible when he gets to coughing, but he is still happy, playful and full of energy.
He is being so good even though he does not feel good. He and Hiro will probably make a trip to the vet tomorrow. Hiro does not sound bad, but he is doing the worst. He has a fever, and does not want to eat. Ritsu still has a very good appetite. It sucks that even with the vaccine, they still get it.
We got it too, when I took Leo to the play group at the Humane society. Luckily in our case it was so mild that we just waited it out, and in a week, no one had it anymore. It does suck, but luckily is really easy to take care of!
They have always gotten the nasal vaccination. Actually the ones that do not have kennel cough are the ones that have not been vaccinated for it. Tora, Kuma and the puppy are not vaccinated for it. Keeping them far away from the ones that do though.
Hiro is the only one on antibiotics right now. He is the worst. Fever, not eating. The other 2 are mild so we will let it run its course and give some benedryl and cough syrup.
My vet will give the nasal one if I'm taking the dogs to a place that requires it, but they say even the nasal one isn't terribly effective--there are too many different strains of kennel cough, and some dogs get it from the vaccine. So we don't do it at all anymore, but I probably would do it more often if my dogs were meeting other dogs regularly.
It's usually not too serious, and is pretty easy to clear up. I've noticed not all the local kennels here even require it anymore.

In that last pic I finally see Ritsu's look in Mika.
I dont blame you, Ritsu, I'd wish I could take a nap next to those wolfhounds too. (Always admired, but probably will never get to own.)

Glad to hear he's still doing good. What's up with Hiro? Is he getting along with anyone?
