@poeticdragon - I dont plan on showing with the CKC at all since it is possible that he'll be disqualified based on height alone ! Here's another pickle - even if I do register him under UKC ands how in a UKC event, there will be no other JA's to compete against, lol. So I guess that answers my questions!
I am happy just having AKIHO since that covers what I want to do with the dog. Thanks for answering my questions guys !
I think (correct me if I'm wrong) @ayk is asking if FCI fully recognizes Kai. If I understood correctly the answer is yes, all Japanese breeds are fully recognised by FCI, but you don't really see a lot of them in shows apart from JA and Shibas. later edit: after reading the post below, I got it wrong
For Jindos, if all the ancestors in the 3 generation pedigree are not registered with a FCI-affiliated registry, they have "waiting list" stamped on their pedigree.
Since the UKC is not a FCI-affiliated registry, I was wondering how they would treat your Kai.
That's true in some countries but here in Finland you get your Kai fully recognized even there is non-FCI ancestors.
EDIT: But they don't get prefix FI. They are registered to special register. This special register don't limit any dog hobbies like shows. You just can't get your dog CACIB but who cares about that stupid "international beauty champion"-tittle.
@MapleTwinkie UKC shows are great. Like I said above, you wont ever have a judge who really knows JA and you may not have any breed competition. But that doesn't mean you can't show against other breeds! Plus UKC's main focus is on performance events. If you ever want to do agility, obedience, etc competitions UKC would be the way to go.
Besides, Kyuubi is going to be relatively close to you -- about an 8 hour drive. Maybe you could meet up somewhere in between for UKC events.
EDIT: The UKC headquarters and Premier show is in Kalamazoo which isn't far at all! Just think if you got enough points on your boy to be in the top 10 and invited to Premier. You're closer than just about everyone else haha. I really hope in 2013 we (JACA) will have some kind of presence at Premier, even if its just an informational booth and not actually have dogs entered in the show.
Getting out there to shows and letting people see these dogs and appreciate the differences between the breeds is what is important. Winning against others of your own breed, not as much.
You would need to beat at least one other dog within your breed to show up on the Top Ten list. Doesn't matter how many points you acrue by beating dogs of other breeds.
