Weird...

We're watching Dog Whisperer. The episode starts off featuring a severely dominant Alaskan Malamute. Well, the Malamute was going super crazy  and attacking Cesar!

Mika responded by snapping and growling at Keigo and pretending to snap at Kurt (thinking he might let go) who was holding her back. When the Malamute calmed, Mika calmed.

Has anyone ever experienced this? I find it so strange. She's mimicking what she sees, not what she 'senses'.

Was the sound on? She might have been reacting to what the dog was saying - Tag gets hyped up if he hears an excited dog on TV. If the sound wasn't on, and she was just watching it, she could have been reacting to body language...I mean, some dogs might not view what goes on in the TV as real (like their reflection in a mirror), but Tag is very interested in what's going on in the TV...esp if there are dogs making noise.

The sound was on, but when the Malamute was biting and attacking Cesar, the show had music on. So I guess it was body language.

Funny, I just watched that episode too!  I've never actually heard of a dog mimicking what they see on tv.  Thats pretty interesting.  BTW, that malamute was insane!!!

That Malamute was insane!!! Mika has NEVER been that crazy. The jumping and growling but only once - with two Scottish Terriors in their yard. Most of the time, she's jump trying her damnedest to pull me towards a dog. NEVER has she ever bitten me.

Though she did bite Kurt once. She got her poot little paw stuck in the baby gate while we were in the backyard. She was FRANTIC and the yelping, OMG. When Kurt grabbed her paw, she bit him - didn't draw blood, just a little bruising. She was flailing about so much a second later, she got herself out....by breaking the plastic, heavy duty baby gate.

Anyway, I think it's really strange because dogs smell tension and aggression in other dogs. We talked about this before...dogs are less visual. Their noses tell them the whole story. So for Mika to start snapping and charging is very odd behavior to me. It brings me back to thinking that there is something wrong with her sense of smell. I notice it on walks. Keigo will smell something react and Mika will start looking for it. Mmmm

Niko has bit out of fear.  She is very mouthy, but not aggressive. Now I think Mika is an exception to the rule with her reaction to the tv!
