  • She's so freaking cute! I love JA puppies haha. They grow so quickly too :) You sure are lucky to have that awesome field. If you do lots of recall reinforcement there then she'll be used to it later on for off-leash hiking if you're into that. How's she doing with her crating? The Shiba I fostered slowly got better with it after 3 months, but still hated being locked up on principle lol.

As for going on the grass, that's more clean than going on the sidewalk. Sidewalk pooing is pretty unhygienic since it can't always be picked up well, especially with puppy diarrheas. Around here no one minds if the dog goes on their lawn as long as it's picked up. It' just when it's left there that people get upset :P Are your neighbors super picky?
  • Ah look at her. It's amazing how much she and Kaya look. All the puppies are starting to get long legs.

BTW, I am going through barking/yelling/crying issues with Kizuna. She is just starting to settle down.

I take it the litter, that Miyuki is a part of, is your own litter? I never knew that you bred JAs, do you have a website?

  • @mapletwinkie lol glad to know someone is going through the exact same growing pains. she is getting very very good at letting me know when she needs to go outside for a potty break.

we introduced her to my friend's roomate's dog. after stepping on his face and being all around annoying he had enough and nipped the air next to her. that calmed her down quick and she's been behaving better since haha. she doesnt seem to be fazed by much. there are plenty of badly behaved dogs being walked around my neighborhood. as they walk by growling and barking she just stares at them with an "lolwut?" expression. she gets plenty of extra treats in those moment =)

@cdenney i found it thank you! I'll be starting her off slow with some raw chicken perhaps.

@cezieg she hates crates lol...as soon as i shut the door its crazy parrot dog time. i have been working on it with her. i give her lots of high value treats when she is in and walk away and come back repeatedly while increasing the time in between. she is only getting marginally better haha.

while she is potty training she is only allowed downstairs since the upstairs is all carpet. for some reason she is quiet as a mouse when i go upstairs and leave her alone. but if i am in another room downstairs and not in her field of vision she goes NUTS. so weird -_-

and i agree with you on the grass thing. i now think it is much better that she eliminates on grass because when i start taking her out to like outdoor malls and the such i dont want her going potty where everyone is walking lol.

she doesn't poo in the house anymore! i consider that a big win. she is very good at telling me when she needs to go...we are still working on the pee XD.

the patch of grass she prefers the most belongs to a neighbor is super anal about it lol...go figure.

she sleeps through the night...wakes up when i wake up...i consider this the biggest win of all lol.

@*JackBurton* do you know how the rest of the pups are doing? maybe this is just a particularly noisy bunch LOL. i kinda like the long legs...she doesn't seem to be used to them though...sometimes she does this bunny hop thing through the grass and does a sommersault because she hops too high and her front legs cant keep up. lol.
  • thanks for the update! I love the third pic!
  • Compared the last litter this litter was more mellow. Kizuna is doing better, they see people moving around and want to be around that. In our case she sees momma and wants to play. These dogs are smart and they quickly learn that making noise leads to attention. I've gotten Kizuna to be quite for the most part unless she has to potty or Kaede is being playful.

Last I heard Kiyoshi kinda quiet. Sumiko acts kinda like Miyuki, I haven't heard from Aki in a while. I would ask them on the JACAlist. All of them are members.

@cezieg my poor excuse for a website is www.japanese-akitas.com This is my second litter, I can see myself doing one more with Kaede. After that I don't know, I need to figure out who is going to replace her in our breeding program. We'll keep Kaede with us but I do need to start thinking of the future.

  • @Maru Your Miyuki is a gorgeous pup! :) love the picof her sleeping under legs my pup does exactly the same! Shes got such a cute face! picked up my JA pup Keiko on Monday and so far I am having a simular experience with my girl as yours with the confined spaces. She is more than happy to be on her own when she can still roam around room to room as she pleases as soon as we close the pet gate/crate door she cries and chews the gate/door. We are trying repetition of putting her in there and positive association and hoping she will adjust soon. She has no problem sleeping in her crate or seperate room but it's as soon as she wakes up that she cries.

  • Love scrolling through all the pictures and see how she grows!
  • Miyuki's K9 daddy, Gobo (Yuusaku) whines and whines when he can't see me. And when I don't pay attention to him for a bit... he comes over and demands it... Sorry to give Miyuki a bad gene! He's such a mama's boy though.
