Dog Beach

Is this the place you go to Romi?

We have been looking for beaches that allow dogs here...we're having trouble finding beaches that allow people! Even though we're less than 5 miles from the ocean, almost the entire Vandenberg coastline (45 miles!) is closed off from 1 Mar to 30 Sept for the Snowy Plover. Bummer. Jalama beach did allow dogs on leash (for an extra park fee), and Arroyo Burro beach allowed dogs after a certain time. We've been looking through the book The dog lover's companion to California: the inside scoop on where to take your dog. It was written in 2005, so we'll have to see how accurate it still is. We were thinking of stopping at Pismo Beach today - outrageous...no way do I want to deal with that many people - and it's not even summer yet! Crazy Californians! We went to Barnes and Noble (the closest is in San Luis Obispo - 45 min!) Cry - and bought a stack of books on hiking central and southern CA with your dogs, what to do in CA with your dogs, etc. I guess we'll never be able to say we have nothing to do! Although, I must say, the whole picking up poop with a bag thing is getting old...not that I won't do it anymore, I just appreciate my little scoop that much more. If it wasn't such a pain to take around, I'd have it with me every time I took the dogs on a walk (or hike)! Unfortunately, we've been taking the dogs on many walks - to get the digestive system moving, and to make up for being in the room or in the car all the time, and I have never had to carry - and use - so many poop bags in my life! Speaking of this...I don't know how many of you have been around horses, but they are (usually) able to walk (or trot) along while taking care of the #2 business...well, Tag has decided he likes this method, and it has become hazardous to walk directly behind him, as he will just lift his tail and fire at will! Which makes using a bag even more fun.

Anyway, sorry for the long post (and the ending topic)!

I keep a poop bag holster/dispenser on all my leashes. And I get the rolls of biodegradable poop bags. It makes things a little easier.

That's too funny Jen. I know some dogs like to "travel" while doing #2 but from what I've seen that usually means going around in a circle. Continuing to walk? I would be LMAO the whole time. :-)

tag - hahahaha - definitely efficient!!

we go through a ton of bags too.. we have the baggy dispenser but for 2 weeks we've been out of bags and using grocery bags. The garbage men must hate our trash..

I'll have to get one of those dispensers...holding multiple bags is worth using a new one every time.

I know - whoever is picking up the hotel trash (in the bins outside) must be like WTF - where does all of this come from!? I don't think they usually get long term residents like us - there's nowhere else to put it though!

Jen, it always amazes me that Horses walk and poop. They must have strong stomach muscles to be able to do it. As for tag...don't wear good shoes walking himWink.

Dave: Mika's Indian name is 'Poops in a circle'. Which is particularly fun when she steps it it and even more so when her poop is really formed and starts rolling towards usUndecided. She also lifts her leg to pee.  Keigo as you knowLaughing poops in mounds.

    Hi Jen!

Yup, that is the dog beach we used to go to!  Its huge and really nice!  Although, it is about 3 1/2 hours away from you!  Might be fun for a little weekend trip if your pups don't mind the long drive.

We've always used grocery bags as poop bags. Also used them as garbage can liners for the smaller cans. Better to use them twice rather than just to bring groceries home from the store.

We'll definitely get down there some weekend!

We've been using the grocery bags, but it works much better to use the small dispenser bags every time (since they like to stop a few times), and use the grocery bag to hold the smaller bags (since they don't have handles, and unfortunately, there are not convenient garbage cans :-/ ). We're working out a system!

We went to  Pismo Beach today...much less crowded during the week, kinda stinky tho, and people can drive on the beach there. It's weird that the same ocean can result in different beaches within 100 miles of coastline...some parts are not so stinky, some much more so. Crazy.
