Whose website?

edited October 2013 in General
I just noticed a website I hadn't seen before, All About Japanese Dog Breeds, when I was looking for information on Karafuto Ken/Sakhalin Huskies, http://www.japanesedog.org/karafuto-ken-sakhalin-husky/ . Does anyone know whose website this is? Also saw that the supposed last Karafuto Ken died this March, . Or maybe this was the next to the last; the owner had a male and a female.

  • This is an assumption and guess, but there is a section marked "Gallery of Japanese Breeds" and in it are some pictures of some AA. These don't look like fancy pictures taken from some random website, but those that someone would take of their pet and I'd imagine wouldn't make it on a site like this had the creator not have been the owner of the dogs. The pictures of those dogs seem to be distributed by the same person on several sites and a few blogs. There's also an Admin response on the shiba description stating that they own an AA, the story matching up with posts on other blogs.

Searching the dogs' names listed under the pics comes up with a Jen Regan located in Nor Cal. On some sites, her login name is akitajitsu but she doesn't seem to be a part of this forum unless she has chosen a different login name (or her hubby joined instead).

OT, It's amazing what personal info you can find on the web with a simple google search. All I needed was her dogs' names and I was able to find almost her whole life's story. Makes as a good reminder to be careful what you post online as you never know what weirdo (or crazy dog person) might find about you.

I found this response on her site interesting:
Breeders (or dog owners) can get special permission to remove national treasure breeds from Japan. Most of the time, permission is only given if it is likely that the breeder will stay true to the original breed type. Once the dog is bred outside of Japan, pretty much anyone can get one. Of course, breeders of these breeds are usually very selective of who they sell a pup to. In my experience, a breeder will first determine the quality of the pup – show or companion. If the pup is not of show quality, it will often be fixed before it is sold to a loving family. If it is of show quality, your sales contract will usually specify that the dog must be shown to championship before breeding. This is done to protect the integrity of the breed.

Unlike many dog breeds, Kishus and other Japanese national treasures are not produced commercially, and therefore not exported in a commercial manner. It doesn’t mean that they never leave Japan – you just may have to jump through a lot of hoops to get permission to get one straight from Japan. If you are sure you want a Kishu, you can be pretty sure that any breeder outside Japan will be reputable and be producing top quality dogs.
  • Oh she lives an hour from me. :-P
