Aww, no. I think that's the good thing about being around NK people. TK has some issues, but everyone was really great when I brought him to the meetup. He even earned a few fans.
Meitou! We just keep missing you. We were down at the St Helen's Barn Hunt last weekend on Sunday. We would love to meet up and have a play date. Tavi is very social. We're in Puyallup, WA. So a little far but would def meet in Portland or Vancouver (maybe we can get Mika to join us!!).
@omgtain I'd love to meet up. Hopefully Meitou wouldn't be a jerk. I'd love to set something up. I think I have enough vacation I could take a day off sometime and we could meet up somewhere, if that would work.
Most of the pictures are from our backyard on the day he did not go. The four or five that look like they are in a park were taken at a park where cosplayers gather. Ironically there aren't really any cosplayers in his pictures. I was making sure he was behaved and didn't take many pictures of him with real proof. Whoops.
I won't post any of the non-Meitou photos. Meitou barked at a girl dressed as a Reindeer. But otherwise he was pretty chill about the whole thing (I didn't let people pet him but they could hang out with us).
On Monday (9/15) Meitou and I (plus friend!) went to an old fort and two beaches. We had a very long day. But even then Meitou didn't want to go home. He was pretty sure we could chase seagulls all night.
Please ignore the random smudge in the middle of the pictures. I couldn't get it to go away.
And as always, more pictures located at my Flickr page.
Fort Stevenson, For Stevenson State Park (near Astoria, OR).
It is really hard to get Meitou looking at the camera.
The fog rolling in....from inland....
Meitou found a great smell. Luckily there wasn't poop where he decided to roll. Not long after this he dragged me across a field because of some smell that intrigued him. Considering we saw elk later....we wonder if maybe he got elk-smell and was trying to track it.
Ominous
He really wanted up in the alcove where my friend had gone, but the ladder was in the way and I think he thought it was too high up to jump.
Found Meitou's room.
Meitou likes cannonball
The elk. There were more just around the corner. I counted eight. I rolled down Meitou's window so he could smell them and he got super excited.
I apologize for the quality of some of these pictures. My camera started rebelling at this point, especially as it started getting dark.
Lewis and Clark monument
There were quite a few pelicans flying out over the ocean.
Seagull tracks
Meitou tried to eat this crab shell at least once.
The Eye of Sauron watched us for maybe 10 or 15 minutes.
Found the crab again
My camera made it seem like it wasn't as late as it actually was. It was a bit darker than it seems in the pictures.
Yeah, so that light in this next picture? At first my friend and I thought it was a lighthouse. Except then it MOVED. Fast. We decided it was a ship. My friend said Coast Guard. I picked Ghost Ship. Because I really wanted it to be a Ghost Ship.
Ghost Ship and a line of pelicans
These are not starts. That is not a moon. It is the light of the Ghost Ship and a lot of photo artifacts. To me it looks like a picture of the sky.
Rolling in sand at night
Videos!
This is not the first time my feet got wet. Not even close.
And then we had a scenic nighttime drive home. Full of music and singing and very bad impressions.
I had an interesting walk with Meitou today. We went on a walk around Fort Vancouver and part of the walking/bike trail nearby has a lot of boardwalk stuff the Meitou is freaked out by. But oddly enough he did way better today than he ever has before. He was a little hesitant, but he crossed anyway (hunkered down and slinking). Then he got to play in the Columbia River for a while and he actually played in the water and tried to bite waves. This from a dog who was intimidated by even little waves. First he was okay with ocean waves, now river waves? Where did this maturity come from? lol And then on the way back to the car...he had virtually no issues with the boardwalk. He was actually happy. So weird. Pleasant, but weird because it wasn't what I was expecting out of him behavior-wise.
And here is some video and photos of him playing in the river. The motor boats going by at high speeds were super interesting. And so were the ducks.
Edited to add in two pictures I realized I forgot to upload:
Monday and Tuesday (October 6th and 7th) my sister and I took Meitou up to Leavenworth WA. http://www.leavenworth.org/
After checking in at our pet friendly hotel (Der Ritterhof), we went to eat at the restaurant right next door called Kristall's. Our hotel gave us a 20% off coupon for it. Walking by we noticed that Kristall's is dog friendly. Dogs are welcome in their outdoor seating. Our server was very attentive and made sure Meitou had water. Plus the food was good. I'd recommend it.
Here's Meitou at Kristall's.
The giant suit of armor at Der Ritterhof
The hotel room had a sliding glass door
Meitou was very infatuated with these pretzels. I still don't know if they were fake or not.
There were water bowls for dogs set out at a lot of the shops
And now I want a Hobbit house...
In the pet supply store, A Paw Above, they had cute little hats. I put one on Meitou and he immediately tried to paw it off. So of course I had to buy it.
Yum, flowers.
After window shopping and a brief stop at the hotel we all went walking the trails from Enchantment Park, to Blackbird Island, to Waterfront Park.
Lights on the tree. The town was all lit up at night. Super cute.
Then a little later when went hiking!
After hiking I got Meitou to wear the hat
We went walking around town again and actually bought things. Since dogs weren't allowed in most of the stores my sister and I alternated going into shops. Meitou yodeled a lot when I wasn't around. But the last shop we went in, called The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory let him come in. He was so happy. And very well behaved.
Meitou was totally fine wearing his bandana. The woman who was working there the day before saw him and liked that he was wearing it.
After a long day Meitou decided he was tired. He did not want to move from this spot.
He eventually did move around, but then parked himself back down in his spot.
When I tried to get him to move (he even ignored treats) this is what happened:
He pretended to be asleep.
He popped up as soon as two little Yorkies passed by and he wanted to play.
We got home pretty late, but I made Amy wear the hat. She had no idea it was on.
@zandrame He does have cute eyelashes, doesn't he?
And I forgot to mention... he did really well with the other dogs we saw around town. There was only once instance where he started barking. I wasn't there for it. Meitou was with my sister while I was in a store and some man let his German Shepherd get right in Meitou's face. My sister tried to warn him that Meitou didn't do well with strange dogs and the man just looked offended. And then Meitou barked at the dog. According to my sister that's all he did. Anyway, other than that, Meitou did really well. I'm really glad his classes have been paying off.
Oh geeze Meitou is such a cutie, he looks so happy in so many of these pictures, and I absolutely adore both him and Amy in that tiny hat. (I want a dog and a tiny hat to dress said dog up in!!) Leavenworth itself looks super lovely... I want to go...
@Ilium Thanks! And yeah, I only bought one hat and now I wish I'd bought two of them so I could get a picture of Meitou and Amy together where they are both wearing the hats. I would definitely like to go back again. If a place up in the Leavenworth area would let me bring Meitou along I'd like to do a snowshoe tour. I think he'd love that. Maybe I could get more hats then.
@tmd He didn't have a problem with this bridge. His issues seem to be wooden bridges, especially treated wood. And recently he's been doing better with his wood issues, at least in some places. But this one was metal and dirt so he went across no problem.
So last night I was watching a (loud) video of three cute Hokkaido puppies (here).
And Meitou started dramatically tilting his head from side to side. "Wuzzat?" I didn't have my camera on me at the time, so a few hours later I snagged the camera and played the video again. The head tilting isn't as adorable as the first time, but it is pretty close. Apparently loud puppies are very serious and intriguing business.
@zandrame You can see his partially destroyed seahorse in the background.
@zandrame If Kouda has a good reaction I'd love to hear about it. I had an experience with Meitou a few days before the puppy video where I was playing the Legend of Zelda: Four Swords with some family and there was a map where we all had to pull on a giant chain. The sound of all the Links grunting while pulling the chain got Meitou's attention and he put his face right in one of the TV speakers and started tilting his head from side to side. I really wish I had had my camera with me for that one. I'm tempted to try and recreate it...

Then Thursday we found this lovely hanging out in our wood pile...
Mummified opossum skull and its spine?
Hanging out at the house on Thursday.
Howling Meitou. I only caught one howl. He stopped not long after I turned the camera on.
I want to do a PNW meetup when I get out there this winter. I'd love to meet some Hokka and the PNW NK people.

@zandrame Exactly! Thanks! I'll probably upload the rest of the cosplay pictures to my flickr sometime this weekend.
Pictures will be coming soon.

Forgot the videos!

Peter Iredale shipwreck, a beach in For Stevenson State Park
Apparently shipwrecks are magical, because Meitou decided he actually kind of sort of liked the ocean! *dies*
Shaking off
His feet are so dirty!
@Saya Fish fudge gets Meitou to do tricks on the beach. Thanks for the recipe!
