If the sire was a half inch short, that would mean about 24.5" inches - a dog that small would not easily top 90 pounds without being obese. The 110+ pound dogs are also 27" and taller.
oh... ok. I will get the yard sticks out and measure him in the morning. So. To measure him. Do I push the horizontal yard stick down to the skin or do I just rest it on the fur at the withers? There is a natural bump there am I to measure on top the bump? It seems if I am a half inch forwards or back it could be a half inch difference in his height. I think kenji is 25.5 I want to check again cuz its probably been 6 months since I measured him.
If you zoom in on this picture kenji is much thicker then the dog represented above. Left is Ares RIP. the marks on Kenjis front legs are not suposed to be there right?
The withers is the ridge between the shoulder blades, it should be the tallest point on the dog's body. So yes, you include the "bump." You do not include the fur; the wicket should rest against the skin. Be careful to make sure your stick is level and the sides are perpendicular to the ground. Measuring correctly can be an art form, especially with impatient or uncertain dogs. Even a little bit of a slant can add or remove up to 3" from the measurement. I've seen some pretty crazy claims from people who don't know how to measure right...
My most accurate measurement with my wifes help holding him in position was 25.5 inchs so I think he is done growing up. Now all I am waiting for is to make sure is done growing wider.
