haha, I guess our lits are really similar Sangmort.

Hmm..Jindos are starting to look really cool too :D I may need to look into them.
  • edited November -1
Jindos are rad...and if you are nihon ken proofed and knowledgeable they are not a huge jump. For others the whole...if let off leash might range rather far and can jump 6-foot fences and have high prey drive and are way too smart for their own good lol...can be an issue.

Basenji (after all they were the breed that lead me to Shibas)
    Husky
    Rhodesian Ridgeback
JRT! (ahha I see they are catching alot of heat over in the other thread! I love my little squirt! He's not your typical JRT.)
    Norwegian Elkhound

    Karelian Bear Dog
    Jagdterrier
    Jindo

    Kevin: Go adopt "Pete"! http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/13931601?recno=5

He's super cute and I've been watching him for a few months. Save my marriage and bring home a fun terrier for yourself! He's even right nearby in Ohio!

That's awesome--if I didn't have a pup on the way and too many other uncertainties I would really consider it.

I always like these lists, heheheh

    Anatolian Shepherd Dog (Kangal)
    Leonberger
    Castro Laboreiro
    Tatras Shepherd
    Great Pyrenees

A bit biased towards the mountain dog, huh?
  • edited November -1
    Alaskan Malamute
    Carpatin (Carpathian Shepherd Dog)
    Great Pyrenees

    I can't think of 5 lol.
  • edited November -1
Changed my list to include the Neopolitan Mastiff. ;o)
  • edited April 2010
    Pit Bull
    Dalmatian
    Pharaoh Hound*
    Chow Chow

Umm...I'm stuck on Irish Wolf Hound or a Great Dane for the fifth...

*decided I would go for the Pharaoh Hound over the Doberman

I'm really interested in a ton of breeds and I admit ... i'd like to get a CO someday. If I ever have enough land. lol.

    - Chow chow
    - Keeshond
    - Leonberger
    - Greenland Dog ( I have a friend in Poland who has a ton of these dogs and trains for races -- AMAZING! )
    - CO

I also have slight interests in the Tosa Inu, Anatolian Shepherd, and Malinois.
But seriously, I love my dogs being difficult/pain in the ass -- just so much more fun and a challenge to train. ;) Though, think i'll mostly be sticking to the Spitz-type breeds. I love them too much.

    Only top 5 non-Nihon Ken?

    1. Belgians (Malinois, Tervuren & Groenendael --- Laekenois)
    2. Alaskan Malamute
    3. Ibizian Hound (Smooth Coat)
    4. LGD: Caucasian Ovcharka (mild obsession that has been planted and is growing and growing...)
    5. LGD: Akabash (mildly interested in this breed too, lol!)

I have other breeds that I admire and have even considered, but I'm not sure I'd put them in my "top 5".

I know this is an old discussion, but I couldn't help myself but to start arranging them in my head to put my two cents in... if only because it was a challenge for me to arrange them by number.

    1) Ibizan Hound
    image
    a childhood doggie crush

    2) Akbaş Dog
    image
    another childhood doggie crush

    3) Dutch Shepherd
    image
...mostly because of... the wire hairs. They just look so much fun. ,:D

    4) Qimmiq
    image
I figure they're my speed - they seem very close to the malamute without being the same dog

    5) Rhodesian Ridgeback
    image
I'm a sucker for "red" dogs, what can I say? Ridgebacks just look so sleek and handsome. :( Love their personalities, too.

Oh... I'd like to add my "5-cents" too! :)

    - Czechoslovakian Wolfdog (Huge love!)
    - Dobermann
    - Rottweiler
    - Rhodesian Ridgeback
    - Dalmatian

They all have pretty similar features, now I compare them... :D
  • edited November -1
    Yay more Dutchie love :p

Never heard of a Qimmiq, pretty cool. :) ~

I saw an Anatolian Shepherd the other day at Costco. Yes...at Costco. He was a service dog. I'd never seen one in person and I was super impressed. Plus...really wanted to hug him.

I'm amending my list. I'm on a big gun dog kick right now and I've been looking at a lot of the versatile hunters. So here's my new list.

    1) Vizsla
    2) Weimaraner
    3) Pointing Lab
    4) American Pointer
    5) GSP
  • edited November -1
Dave, you're making some good choices there. I know a hunter who owns a vizsla, and he's a REAL hunter and a very nice dog :o) Actually he's so good that sometimes the owner can't keep up with shooting the animals he brings around. The owner once was adjusting/attending to his gun after shooting a bird (which kind I do not remember) and the dog came running with a deer, and when his owner wasn't ready with the gun he turned the deer and came back like "Shoot the bastard all right!" LOL Too hilarious...

I wanna get in on this, but I dont have a full 5...

    Siberian Husky
    Alaskan Malamute
Some kind of Lab or Retriever
    Border Collie
  • edited November -1
LOL, that's too funny! "I'm not bringing this deer around again dude. Shoot it already you amature!"
  • edited November -1
Yep, that was probably the dog's exact thoughts! LOL

Rainy: I remember running into someone with an Anatolian shepherd in downtown San Diego. It was HUGE but a very friendly, quiet dog.

Dave: I love german shorthaired pointers :) the neighbor behind me has 3 of them
