That is so true! Especially if you have puppies... I haven't needed alarm clock in months, Fujiko knows exactly when I have to wake up :D.

When after 5-10 minutes of sniffing, circling, sniffing some more, pacing the same area what seems like at least 10 times, and faking it at least 4 times, your dog finally finds the "perfect" spot and poops.
  • - you cant help but smell their fur- I never knew a dog could smell so good!
@WrylyBrindle my puppy smells like ramen tonight. I have no idea why. But now I want ramen.
    yes... so true... so true...

I am still so amazing that Hana still smells like a stuffed toy. The only smell that verifies to me that she is NOT a stuffed toy, are her feet that smell like doritos, and her not-so-stinky ears. :)

but I would LOVE for a pup to smell like ramen... best of both worlds...

I like puppy smells more than human baby smells... :S

  • You know you have an nk when they follow you around a house chewing on their id tags (that are on their collars, on their neck) with a thoughtful look on their face.
  • When finding an appropriate canine/animal housemate for your current NK requires the skills of a doggie "yenta".
  • ...your dogs talk more to each other than to you

...a nose pushes your tablet out of the way enroute to an armpit or ear

...a moose is in the yard, seriously, they bark on about it for hours

...command words are optional, I mean, come on, can't you see that squirrel, it is WAY more interesting

...you come home from work and your spot on the couch is not only warm, but occupied by a lump of fur

  • when you don't even bother to repair your screen door anymore because the screen portion has been broken so many times because you can't get to the door fast enough to let your dogs out (or in)
  • - when you have an assortment of meats/fish in the fridge and/or freezer and tell your visiting family/friends "Yea, that's for the dogs". Imagine the crazy looks I get LOL
  • Ah- @ttddinh I rescreened our screen door with claw-proof screen- it has worked great for us!

@Kuma123 reminds me that I still have grouse legs in the freezer- I should issue that ration before my mom visits...

    it's all so true!!! :)

    or still doesn't poop.

I have metal (claw proof) screening too, but now, I'm going even further. I'm buying a security screen entirely for the dogs. It's all metal, and if you're outside, you can't see in, which I think will be ideal for dogs trying to harass one another through the screen!

And yeah, our freezer is full of chicken. for the dogs.
  • @wrylybrindle and @shibamistress-- they don't claw at the screen...they just run through it like it doesn't exist.

Hmmm, the metal one might be a good idea..i have to look into that to see if they have them for sliding doors.
  • Yeah,we have a security screen. LOVE IT.
  • rescreening a door isn't hard- nor door-type specific. Despite the estimation of my abilities by the apes who work at the hardware store ("what do you want that for? have your husband help you") I replaced reg screen with clawproof screen on two sliders and you can bounce a quarter off them- nice and tight! If you can get the screen on a roll, and some rubber spline and the little rolley handle tool, you can screen!
  • They make screen doors with doggie doors
  • Security doors are also a good option if you have NK.

I'm going to continue the screen digression for a bit:

That's what mine did too! I mean, one does some clawing, but the others, including the Akita, just ran through it.

Upstairs, on the sliding glass door, I have one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Bug-Off-Instant-Screen-30/dp/B002KXFLRM/ref=sr_1_2?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1364074297&sr=1-2&keywords=hands+free+screen+door

because they can just walk through it and not destroy it. (They started walking through screens before we had this, btw, so it wasn't that they learned to do it from this). It doesn't keep out all bugs because it doesn't always fall back in place, but it is better than nothing. It's not currently up (well, partially because it's not summer here yet!), because the Kai decided it was a chew toy. But it will go back up when it is warmer.

eta: and you know the kind of screen that is supposed to be claw proof? Yeah. They pretty much destroyed that. That's why I went to a firm metal screen that had to be nailed on the downstairs door, because after rescreening (and Chrystal is right, it's not hard) they still went through it. So we had to go to a firm metal grid, and now are going to go to the security door.
  • i guess my guys are respectful of screens and barriers LOL!

Sage blew my studio screen door off the tracks as he was blasting outside once, but the screen held. Upstairs we also use the screen curtain thingy to good effect.
  • it's funny, they all (except Bel) respect barriers and don't even try to knock down gates, even if they are just leaning against something, but the screens? It's like they don't even see them or something. (except for Leo, whose like, whoa, what a cool hanging toy! But Leo tends to think everything is a toy. I can't tell you how many times he's bit my feet, hard, because he decided the shoes I put on must be toys, and how exciting, moving toys!)
