Jesse, Mylo does it often. Sometimes with both paws. I also thought it looked pretty uncomfortable, but I guess those joints are very flexible.
Heidi, I hope the biopsy is conclusive so you can start treating w/e it is that's causing her to itch.
She'll be healthy and getting soaking wet in no time =0)
I have Mark's (Aibo) contact info on FB, also I can get contact info from early members - most of her litter mates were members early on and then went away.
This post is a good starting point for finding the earliest Shikoku owners.
Oh wow... Glad that Rakka is home and on the mend. And I am so sorry that she had to go through that whole ordeal! Poor girl. Sending her lots of love!
Rakka's drain hasn't been dripping anything for a while, which I thought was a good sign, but this morning, she had a huge watery lump, three times the size of the original cyst, like a water balloon under her skin. I freaked out and called the vet. The vet said to massage it with a warm, damp cloth and just try to get it draining again. I did, and it started splashing out and was empty within a few minutes (took her outside for that - blech). Now I'm keeping an extra close eye on it. If it swells up and I can't get it to drain, she has to go back in.
I'm just realising that Rakka's lump looks really huge in that picture... it was actually about the size of a golf ball, but I guess with the fur, it looks huge... not that it matters now that it's gone.
My heart goes out to Rakka. I hope that this issue is solved and that she will have no further problems. Heidi, please let us know how she is in a week or so....
She was back at the vet today. She was supposed to get her drain out, but the drain actually stopped working again, but this time I couldn't get it draining again, so this morning she had a huge, swollen neck like a frog. It was scary! Anyway, I took her to the vet, they drained it, opened it up more, and told me to keep massaging her neck, cleaning the area, and moving the drain so it doesn't get stuck. So far, so good.
Poor girl. Her neck skin is all loose and saggy now.
Rakka's being very cooperative, especially considering she hasn't been allowed to run around outside much (I don't want her to get dirty or wet and dirty and wet are around every corner). She doesn't cooperate at the vet very well, but she lets me mess around with her drain at home. In fact, I need to start putting the muzzle on her before we even leave for the vet clinic.
I'm having trouble getting it to drain again. Ugh. I just want this to be over. I called the vet for some advise, but he's performing an operation, so he's supposed to call me back.
The vet said I'd have to bring her back and leave her for a few days if I couldn't get the drain going again. I absolutely don't want to do that - it just sounds like no fun whatsoever and she doesn't cooperate for them, so they'd be putting her under way more than I'm comfortable with. I told him that she cooperates better at home, and to just give me some ideas on how to get it draining. He said he used a sterilized clamp to get it draining again, and I could use something clean to try to open it up again. He said a q-tip would be okay as long as it was CLEAN and I didn't use the same one more than once, so out comes the hydrogen peroxide and the q-tips.
And hallelujah, I got it going again! Wahoo! I never thought I'd be so happy to see bloody fluid spewing from my dog's neck.

Poor baby. Once this is over and done with you need to give her something extra special.
Heal well Rakka!
Best bloody fluid news ever!
